He was born in Mercer County, the son of the late William H. and Lilly Brooks Thompson. He was a former employee of Shumate Furniture Company, Princeton. Survivors: sister, Mrs. Bucky (Thelma) Hubbard of Princeton; brothers, Donald Thompson of Melbourne, Fla., Harold Thompson, Jack Thompson, and Alvin Thompson, all of Princeton, and Paul Thompson of Bluefield. Powell, Jacksonville, Fla., Jack, John and Sam Powell, Princeton, Joe Powell, Salem, Va., Charles E. Powell, Charleston, Mrs. E. H. Lafon, Gassaway, Mrs. F. Bruck Johnson, Jacksonville, and Mrs. Edwin Rice, Belle. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. F. M. Gore, Princeton, Mrs. S. E. Gore, Rich Creek, Va., and P. L. Thompson, Princeton. In addition, Mrs. Oxley is survived by 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. on December 16, 1950.4

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Princeton where she was a member of the UMW and the TEL Sunday School Class. She had moved from Princeton to Hollywood 10 years ago. Born in Summers County, June 23, 1888, she was the daughter of Joseph and Minverva Maseky Eskew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Leonard Thompson, in 1957, and by one son, Randall Thompson, in 1936. She is survived by two sons, Cyrus F. Thompson of McLean, Va., and Watson H. Thompson, of Princeton; two daughters, Mrs. Wilma L. Devis of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mrs. Merriam Karlin of Hollywood, Fla; one sister, Miss Lula V. Eskew of Hollywood; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Interment will follow in Oakwood Park Cemetery in Princeton. on October 18, 1977.3

Until ill health forced his retirement, he was an employee of Bob Bell Imports. Rev. Thompson was preceded in death by his mother, father, one sister, and three brothers. Surviving are his wife, Theresa Houck Thompson; two daughters sons-in-law, Bobbie and Jim Brightbill, of Salem; Vicki and Adam Gicz, of Chesapeake, Va; son and daughter-in-law, Marcus and Connie Thompson, Salem; sister, Mrs. Dixie Moxley, Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Aric and Tara Brightbill, Allison and Lauren Gicz, Cory and Carly Thompson. Burial will be in the Virginia Conference Cemetery, Dublin, Va. on April 2, 1986.8

Interment will follow at Arlington Park Cemetery. on October 15, 2002.7

Jo served as Queen of the Hampton Mad Hatters Chapter of the Red Hat Society. She was preceded in death by her son, William A. 'Chip'' Cunningham. Jo is survived by her husband of 51 years, William H. 'Bill' Cunningham; her sister, Jane Inancsi and her sons, Gary E. Poole, his wife, Anne and Charles H. "Chuck" Cunningham, his wife Maria; her Powers; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside service in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Hampton. on July 2, 2009.3
