She was a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar F. Talbott Sr. Survivors: sons, Edgar F. Talbott and James A. Talbott, both of Grundy; sister, Minnie Lou Snyder of Salem, Va; brother, Archie Thornton of Troutville, Va; five grandchildren, Lt. Edgar F. Talbott III of the U.S. Navy in Charleston, S.C., Terry Marie Talbott, Allison Leigh Talbott, Sarah Elizabeth Talbott and Megan LeAnne Talbott, all of Grundy. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Buchanan First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harry Hill officiating and burial at Mountain Valley Memorial Park in Big Rock. Va. on January 14, 1990.4

Gunnery Sgt. Archie Thornton was proud to serve in the Marine Corp during World War II in the Pacific Theatre, and was honorably discharged November 1945, when he returned home to marry his beloved "Ginny". His Marine Corp service and family remained his pride and joy. As a machinist he worked for Panther Coal Company, Knox Creek Coal Company, and Roanoke Iron and Bridge Co. He served as a Boy Scout leader, was a member of the Masons, enjoyed bowling, gardening, back yard birding and above all else, waterskiing on Claytor Lake. "Once a Marine, always a Marine." on August 29, 2013.7

Mrs. Burnecke was a lifelong resident of Bud Mountain, a housewife, and a member of the Guyandotte Baptist Church, Bud. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frankie Burnecke; a daughter, Christine Faulkner; a son, Leonard Thomas; a granddaughter, Tina Johnson; and a brother, Bernard Lusk. Other survivors include two sons, Roscoe Thomas and his wife, Tammy, of King, N.C., and Bernard Thomas of Bud Mountain; five daughters, Catherine Meador of Stephenson, Marie Daugherty of King, N.C., Geneva Tolliver and her husband, Shelby, of Bud Mountain, Rella Tingler of Beckley, and Edna Keenan of South Carolina; a brother, William Lusk of Cabin Creek; four sisters, Geneva Colbird of Bud, Racheal Blankenship of New Richmond, Jeanetta Godsey of Cabin Creek, and Ona Worf of North Carolina; 23 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Graveside services and burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hickory Ridge Cemetery, Bud Mountain, with Elder Bryce Phillips officiating. Slate police said the mishap occurred at the top of a hill, and the vision of both drivers was impaired by the heavy rain. Rose's daughter, Mrs. W. T. Bailey, Jr., 24, was injured critically while his son-in-law, W. T. Bailey, Jr, 29, and granddaughter, Mary Frances Bailey, 2, suffered minor hurts. Dr. Gore was traveling alone, while Rose and the others were en route from New Hope to Bluefield. Dr. Gore recently was given an honorable discharge from the army. Rose was a retired Norfolk and Western railway engineer. on June 8, 1943.9

BOWEN SHEPARD PETTREY, 59, wife of James O. Pettrey Jr. of Prichard, W.Va., rejoiced with the angels and went to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2003. Bonnie was a Christian and member of Prichard Freewill Baptist Church, and was a graduate of Wayne High School Class of 1961. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Cothea Workman officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington. Bonnie is reunited with her father and mother, George and Alice Bowen; her sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Jack Lucas; sister, Mary Catherine; and a dear son-in-law, Timmy Doss in Heaven. She was born July 1, 1943, in Bowen, W.Va. Bonnie has left behind a very dear, caring, devoted, and loving husband, James O. Pettrey Jr. of Prichard; five loving children, Theresa Shepard of Wayne, Susie (Shepard) Doss of Fort Gay, Larry and Pearline Shepard of Prichard, Lawton and Kelly Shepard of Fort Gay, and Marie (Shepard) Mathis of Prichard; a son-in-law, David Mathis of Kenova. Bonnie held 13 very special grandchildren close to her heart. They are Cindy Shepard, Rebecca Mathis, Katie Adkins, and Kristina Maynard of Prichard, Natashia Shepard of Wayne, Amanda Doss, Holly Doss, and Timmy Doss Jr. of Fort Gay, Stephen Shepard, C.J. Shepard, and Nathan Shepard of Fort Gay, John Blake and Tristan Shepard of Prichard. She was also a second mother to nieces, Tammy Gibson and Denise Calhoun of Ceredo and 15 other special nieces and nephews. She is the loving daughter-in-law of Sybil Pettrey of Princeton, W.Va., and sister-in-law of Jerlene and Charlie Harvey of Princeton, W.Va. She was a caring sister to two brothers and three sisters, Lindel Bowen of Branchland, Limuel (Sonny Boy) and Doris Bowen of Branchland, Darlene and Don Childers of Branchland, Romaine and Ray Wantowski of Branchland, and Geneva (Turtle) and Walter Burgess of Branchland. She had one uncle, Jarrett Porter Jr. of Detroit, Mich. Bonnie also left behind a very dear and special lifetime best friend, Connie Blake. Any woman can be a mother, but it takes someone special to be a mommy, and she was a mommy to all who wanted or cared for her motherly advice, comfort, and guidance. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Bonnie?s name to McKenzie Brewer, P.O. Box 30 Route 2, Prichard, WV, 25555.
