He was a member of Bland Street United Methodist Church, The Bluefield Lions Club, Riley-Vest-Post No. 9 of the American Legion, The Bluefield Elks Lodge No. 269 and the Railway Retirement Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Shupe Hoback after 56 years of marriage. He is survived by a son, George H. Hoback Jr. and his wife Dawn of Wilmington, N.C. and a grandson, Brandon Ryan Hoback, also of Wilmington, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted today, Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Mercer Funeral Home & Crematory of Bluefield with the Rev. David L. Hall Jr. officiating. She was a retired teacher and guidance counselor for Flagler-Palm Coast High School (formerly Bunnell High School) with over 43 years service in the education field. She also taught on the university level in Virginia, New York and Florida. She received her B.S. from Longwood College and her Masters in Education from the University of Virginia. She attended the First Methodist Church of Bunnell, was a member of the Flagler Beach Women s Club, Phi Delta Kappa, AAUW. and a former member of the Halifax Club of Daytona Beach. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed the beach and reading. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Hugh R. Morgan in 1984. Survivors include son, Marshall Morgan of Daytona Beach; daughter, Melissa Casale of Flagler Beach; two grandchildren, Miranda Booth and Grant Booth; brother, Harold Hoback of Bluefield; four sister-in-laws, Joyce Lilly, of Bluefield, Barbara Bates and husband, Ben of Bluefield Va., Jacque Palmer and husband, Bruce of Eustis, Fla., and Judith Nelson and husband, Robert of Mt. Dora Fla. Born on July 18, 1923, in Bluefield, she was a daughter of the late Luther Ball and Julia Hoback Ball. Mrs. Tabor had been a lifelong resident of Bluefield and was a Registered Nurse by diploma from McMillian Hospital in Charleston. She was a cadet nurse at the veterans hospital in Martinsburg, and she worked at Bluefield Sanitarium, Glenwood Methodist Home, Cumberland Care, and St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a member of Bland St. United Methodist Church. Survivors include husband, Don Tabor of Albermarle St., Bluefield; daughter, Julie Shields and husband, Scott of Hagerstown, Md; son, Harvey Tabor of Arlington, Va; sister, Elizabeth Harnsberger of Towson, Md; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside rites will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Bluefield with the Rev. Warren Faulknier officiating. Burial will follow the graveside rites. on September 23, 2002.6

Funeral service for little Nancy Margaret Ball, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Ball, 201 Jackson street, was held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the home of Mr. Ball's mother, Mrs. M. F. Ball, at Honaker, Va. Interment was made in the Honaker cemetery. The body was taken to Honaker Friday morning. Among those from Bluefield who accompanied the bereaved parents were: Mr. and Mrs. George Hoback, Robert Hoback, Mrs. Audrey Stewart, Miss Elmyr Barrett, Mrs. Milton Austin, Mrs. Noah Stewart, Mrs. A. Harnsberger, 76, Sears appliance salesman Jack E. Harnsberger, a retired Sears Roebuck & Co. appliance salesman, died April 30 of bladder cancer. He was 76. Mr. Harnsberger, a native of Charlottesville, Va., began his career at Sears at the North Avenue store in 1948. When that store closed in September 1981, he was transferred to Sears' White Marsh store. He retired in 1984. The longtime Loch Raven resident liked to sell refrigerators best, said the former Elizabeth Ball, his wife of 55 years. "He seemed to enjoy everything about it," she said. A World War II Navy veteran, Mr. Harnsberger was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Vulcan -- one of the first ships to arrive at Hiroshima after Japan was bombed. In 1946, he was honorably discharged and he and his wife moved to Baltimore. He was a member of the Pythagoras Lodge 123 in Baltimore and enjoyed baseball, crossword puzzles and sharing stories with five grandchildren. Services were held May 4 at the chapel at the Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Larry H. Harnsberger of Timonium; a daughter, Leslie McClurken of Hedgeville, W.Va; a brother, William Harnsberger of Stuart, Va; and 5 grandchildren. on May 12, 1996.5
