He is survived by his son, Wayne Epperly of Pilot, Va; grandson, John Hylton Epperly (Alee) in Floyd, Va; and his sisters, Agnes "Jane" McKee in Tampa, Fla., and LZ Wimmer in Salem, Va . He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sylvia Epperly nee Belcher; his son, Donald Ray Epperly; his sister, Georgia Cox; brother, Epperly; and parents, Millard and "Mobie" Epperly. Daniel, better known to friends and family as "Bud", was born on April 27, 1929, in Pilot, Va. He was the 5th of 6 children born to his parents and spent his whole life in Huffville. He spoke often of the hardships he and his family endured during the Great Depression and shared the insurmountable lengths they went to survive during this time with a shrug of his shoulders. He married Sylvia Ann Belcher while serving in the air force in Lancashire, England in October of 1951. They met through mutual friends while Bud was working at the filling station in Christiansburg, Va. As a young adult, Bud had quite the capacity in mechanical endeavors as he started rebuilding motors in the late 1930's with his dad at their general store/garage at the age of 9. His affinity with motors guided him throughout his air force military service, in which he worked as a large vehicle operator and mechanic. Bud loved his air force adventures and spoke often and fondly of the experiences he had while overseas. After serving almost 8 years, Bud found a career as a mechanic at the school bus garage in Christiansburg, Va., where he worked until retirement. Bud was a friend to all. He always looked out for his neighbors, and opened his garage to those in need. His grandson, John Epperly was the light of his life, and he spent the last year living with John and Alee while receiving hospice care. He was well cared for physically and spiritually by his grandson-in-laws, Ty Munz and Dakota Hamilton, and visited daily by friends, neighbors, and family members. A burial service was held at the Huffville United Methodist Church in Pilot, Va. on September 12, 2019.3

Carl David Humpton1,2

M, b. December 28, 1957, d. February 20, 2021
Carl David Humpton Carl David Humpton, 63 of Sterling, Virginia passed away unexpectedly on February 20th 2021. Carl was born on December 28th 1957 in Philadelphia PA to Felicia Libucki Humpton and John Harold Humpton Jr. (both deceased). After graduating from Valley Forge Military Academy, Carl entered the US Marine Corps and served for over 4 years. Not long after his discharge from the Marines, Carl looked up the CIA mailing address at a local library. He applied to the Agency and after acceptance spent the next 30 years of his life serving his country’s interests all over the world. He met his wife Lisa during a shared posting in Manila, and they married on June 23, 1990. They traveled together and built their small family overseas in Europe and South America, having three children before returning to Virginia in the year 2000. In December 2011, Carl retired from the Agency with over 30 years of exceptional service. He began a career at Raytheon Technologies after a very brief retirement. He loved his job, and permanent retirement was always “just one more year away.” He was working at Raytheon at the time of his death. Carl spent his life surrounded by good food, neat gadgets, and the love of every neighborhood dog. Family and friends will remember the huge hearty meals he loved to cook and share, as well as the snacks that found their way into every space that he briefly inhabited. After the loss of his beloved dog Cassie in June 2020, Carl went on daily walks with a pocket full of treats for any dog he ran into. He was fiercely generous to all, a clever advisor to most, and wickedly funny to some (though always to himself). We will miss him so much. Carl is survived by his wife of 30 years Lisa Humpton, and his three children whom he adored: Anna, Emma, and John. He is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law Bobbie and Buddy Poff; brothers John Humpton and Stan Humpton; sisters-in-law Julie Humpton and Mimi Humpton; brother-in-law Doug Poff and sister-in-law Kammy Poff, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.2 He was born on December 28, 1957 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.1,2 He married Lisa Kim Poff, daughter of David Franklin "Buddy" Poff and Barbara Jean Wimmer, on June 23, 1990 at Loudoun Co., Virginia.3,1,2 Carl David Humpton died on February 20, 2021 at Virginia at age 63.2
