In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three stepchildren, Shirley Terry, James Glover and Billy Glover; five brothers, Boyd, Charlie, Frank, Herman and Joseph Tyree; and three sisters, Virgie Poe, Mamie Mitchell and Cora Hermanson. Mrs. Linkous is survived by four children and 10 stepchildren, Jacques Johnson and wife, Audrey, of Concord, Delia Jones of Lynchburg, Linda Ellis-Williams and husband, Henry, of Concord, and Kevin Johnson of Lynchburg; Lucille Johnson, Suanne Berkley and husband, Al, Garrett Johnson Jr. and wife, Beverly, David Johnson and wife, Pat, Daisy Rose and husband, Lewis, Freddie Johnson and wife, Mary, Michael Johnson and wife, Ruby, Elizabeth Knewasser, Clint Johnson and wife, Lelia, and Richard Glover and wife, Diane. She is also survived by two brothers, Jesse James Tyree and wife, Barbara, of Amherst and William Tyree and wife, Barbara, of Gladstone; five sisters, Nettie Davis and Ethel Wooldridge, both of Lynchburg, Nellie Hansen of Gladstone, and Mary Pleasants and Evelyn Arthur, both of Madison Heights; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, May 25, 2009, at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Paul Day. Interment will follow in Amherst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today, May 24, 2009, at the funeral home and other times at 209 Alta Lane, Lynchburg. Cora was a wonderful mother, grandmother and sister. She sadly leaves behind two daughters, Cindy May Hermanson of Lynchburg and Wendy Gale Easley and her husband, Ralph Easley, of Madison Heights. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Brittany Mason, Chad Mason and Victoria Hermanson of Lynchburg, Nicole Page and Sarah Windley of Madison Heights; sisters, Mary Pleasants and Evelyn Arthur of Madison Heights, Lottie Linkous, Ethel Wooldridge and Nettie Davis of Lynchburg and Nellie Hansen of Gladstone; brothers, Jessie James Tyree and William Fitch Tyree of Gladstone and Boyd Tyree of Ohio; and a special friend, Glen Dickens. Cora lived her life in a wheelchair from the age of 13 because of an accidental gunshot wound but she never lived as a handicap. She loved Virginia Beach and visited there often. She did a lot of her own gardening and cooked, cleaned and raised her children. Even though she suffered many hardships in life, Cora was always an inspiration to all. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Glynn A. Coleman. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monelison Rescue Squad. Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Monelison Chapel, (434) 239-5712, is assisting the family. on September 15, 2008.4

Lyon and husband, Lester, of Amherst; six sons, James L. Bryant and wife, Alice, Wesley M. Bryant and wife, Melanie, all of Amherst, Larry D. Bryant and wife, Mary, of Gladstone, Hayden A. Bryant and wife, Lena, of Buckingham, Robert D. Bryant and wife, Linda, of Lynchburg and William H. Bryant and wife, Becky, of Auburn, Fla; two brothers, Nathan Gowen and wife, Odell, of Lynchburg, and Edward Gowen of Gladstone; 38 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and a very special, loving, caring and devoted friend, Newton Bailey of Gladstone. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mineral Springs Baptist Church with Revs. James Williams and Don E. Carty officiating, with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and suggest that memorials take the form of contributions to the Amherst or Gladstone Rescue Squads.
