He was born in Southampton County, a son of the late Peter and Mary Wynne Thomas. He was a graduate of Drewryville High School and attended the University of Richmond. An Army veteran of World War II, he received his B.S. degree from Virginia Tech and his M.S. degree from North Carolina State University. Mr. Thomas was a teacher in Nansemond County for three years, did swine research for Virginia Tech for 32 years, and retired in 1980 as an associate professor. Mr. Thomas served on the Suffolk Planning Commission for four years and was a trustee, deacon, and served on the Stewardship Committee of Holland Baptist Church. He was a member of the Whaleyville Masonic Lodge and Holland Ruritan Club. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Virginia Cole Thomas; two daughters, Rebecca T. England and husband James of Lexington and Nancy T. Musselman and husband Irving of Suffolk; son, H. Randolph Thomas and wife Paige of Boalsburg, Pa; one brother, Douglas M. Thomas of Petersburg; sister-in-law, Jean H. Thomas of Drewryville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Thornton W. Thomas. Interment will follow in Holland Cemetery. on January 20, 2009.3

Mr. Musselman was a native of Radford and a longtime resident of the Holland Community. He was predeceased by his father Irving Ellis Musselman, Sr., and a sister Charlotte M. Blankenship. Irving was a member of Holland Baptist church where he served on the board of Deacons, church moderator, was a Sunday School teacher and served on many other committees. He was also a member of the Holland Ruritan Club and the Holland Cemetery Board. He was a retired quality control supervisor for the International Paper Particle Board Plant after 32 years of service and had been a former employee of National Linen Service for 8 years. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years, Nancy Thomas Musselman, his mother, Virgie Moore Musselman of Radford, a daughter Hope M. Greene and her husband Steve of Franklin, two sons, David Thomas Musselman and his wife Brenda of Fredericksburg and Joseph Allen Musselman and his wife Kelly of Sunbeam, two sisters, Jackie M. Armbrister of Bristol. TN and Bonnie M. Stone of Radford, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. A funeral will be held at 1PM Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin with Pastor Robert W. Bunn officiating on February 2, 2015.3

Warren was preceded in death by his father, Warren Elwood Shiflet. He was a member of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church. Warren is survived by his mother, Dorothy Cole Shiflet of Waynesboro; beloved wife of 55 years, Carolyn Winborne Shiflet; children, Lesli Shiflet Davis (Chuck), Haidee Shiflet Napier and Amber Shiflet Cook (Jared); sister, Carol Shiflet Hansen (Chris); sister-in-law, Linda Winborne Geisler (Greg); grandchildren, Caroline Davis, Megan Davis, Virginia Davis, Ashley Napier, Kevin Napier, Benjamin Napier, Coleman Cook and Riley Cook; and numerous nephews, nieces, and devoted friends. Warren grew up in Waynesboro, Virginia, and graduated from Wilson Memorial High School. After high school he began working at DuPont Spruance Plant in Richmond and retired after 30 years of service as a human resource manager. He was known for his great work ethic, devotion to his profession and great sense of integrity. Warren was devoted to his family, treasured time spent at family gatherings and was so proud of his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his positivity, quick wit and great sense of humor. Warren was always happy to help others by using his unique ability to fix anything. He was a true gentleman with a kind and gentle spirit. on February 24, 2019.6
