Nelson served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He retired from Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford. Nelson was a member of his local Ruritan Club and was an active and faithful member of the Floyd County Rescue Squad. He was a member of Haven's Chapel United Methodist Church and served his Lord Jesus Christ in his everyday walk of life. Nelson was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harvey and Mae Hopkins Hale; his stepmother, French Cole Hale; his brothers, Harman and Cody Hale; and his sisters, Elsie Bennington and Dorothy Hale. He is survived by his wife, Glada Sowers Hale; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dewey and Mary Ellen Hale of Roanoke, John and Karen Hale of Roanoke; one daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Danny Thompson of Copper Hill. Nelson is also survived by seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 5, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Floyd Baptist Church in Floyd. Interment will follow in Restvale Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Thursday at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Floyd County Rescue Squad at P.O. Box 257, Floyd, Va. 24091. Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd is in charge of the arrangements. on December 4, 2003.1

Glada had seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Vera Sowers, who is a resident of Friendship Manor in Roanoke. Glada was a long time member of Havens Chapel United Methodist Church in Check and she worked for Donkenny, Inc., in Floyd for many years. She loved to work in the garden and tend her flowers. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Gardner Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Gardner Funeral Home on Saturday, July 14, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The children would like to thank South Roanoke Nursing Home for the care given to their mother for the last four years and to Gentle Shepherd for their care in the last few weeks. She was born on April 4, 1922 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.4,2 She died on October 11, 2009 at Rock Hill, York Co., South Carolina, at age 87.4,2 She ROCK HILL - Mrs. Josephine Martin Wimmer, 87, widow of Howard Allan Wimmer Sr., died Oct. 11, 2009, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Oakland Baptist Church, with Dr. Robert Shrum and the Revs. Russell Wimmer and Howard Wimmer officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Grandview Memorial Park - S. Cherry Road. A native of Salem, Va., Mrs. Wimmer was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Etta Hodges Martin. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. Surviving are three sons and their wives and one daughter and her husband: Russell and Dorothy Wimmer of Rock Hill; Howard Jr. and Judy Wimmer of Greenville; George and Katherine Wimmer of Rock Hill; and Sarah and Gene Robbins of York. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Steve, Kristen, Rebecca, Mary, Allan, Joanna, Daniel and Carmen; and 18 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 and other times at the home, 709 Twin Lakes Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29731; to Agape Hospice, 1317 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732; or to Oakland Baptist Church, 1067 Oakland Avenue, Rock Hill, SC 29732. on October 13, 2009.2
