     Sylvia Joanne LaPrade Mrs. Joanne LaPrade Johnson, 83, resident of Jamestown, died January 22, 2018 at Adams Farm Living and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Johnson was born December 3, 1934 in Roanoke, VA, a daughter to the late Willie and Vera LaPrade. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and Greensboro College and a resident of the Jamestown community for most of her life. Joanne was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church where she attended the Fortney Sunday School Class. She helped launch the Jamestown Thrift Store and was a longtime coordinator and volunteer. In 1956, she married Alan Johnson who survives of the residence. Also surviving are two sons, Alan Johnson Jr. and wife Beverly of Greensboro and Chris Johnson and wife Kristy of Raleigh; three daughters, Ellen Patterson and husband Jeff of Summerfield, Cindy Buzzard and husband Tom of Raleigh, and Carol Bolding and husband Steve of Beaufort; ten grandchildren, Courtney Stilwell and husband Tommy, Megan Davis and husband Jason, Taylor Johnson, Frances Beasley and husband Johnson, Will Bolding, Jon Bolding and wife Joanna, Nathan Price, Heather Davis, Alex Johnson, and Kate Johnson; and four great grandchildren, Jack Stilwell, Gray Stilwell, Ryan Davis, and Peyton Davis. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Jamestown United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Latimer and Rev. Jim Watford officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the service. A lifelong resident of Greensboro, C.B. was born May 11, 1924 to the late Cadd B. and Mattie S. Smith, Sr. for 57 years he was the devoted husband to the late Louise "Susie" LaPrade Smith. He served in the U. S. Army medical corps in England during World War II. C.B. lived an extremely active and useful life. You may remember him as the friendly man who serviced your cash register, or more recently, the ol' man working alongside the off duty firefighters - mowing grass all over the county. For 38 years he was employed by the National Cash Register Company before retiring in 1986. After retirement C.B. assisted his son with his landscaping business and was still riding a lawn mower until the day he passed away! C.B. was a member of the Bessemer United Methodist Church from childhood and graduated from Bessemer High School. During his active years at the church, he taught the Sunday morning men's Bible study class, participated in the United Methodist Men, and was one of the leaders of the church's Boy Scout troop. After the birth of his grandchildren, his dedication and time spent nurturing them was his life's passion. In addition to his parents and wife, "Susie", he was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen S. Winger and Dottie S. Bonicard. Survivors include his two children, Pam Thomas (Jim) and David Smith (Susan), both of Greensboro, and his three grandchildren, Jennifer Thomas of Arlington, VA, and Kyle and Reid Smith of Greensboro. Other survivors include his brother, William E. Smith, Sr., and several nieces and nephews. on July 20, 2013.3

LaPrade, who was a vice president and trust officer for Wachovia Bank. Hilda attended Catawba College, Salisbury, and has many good friends from her college years. Hilda is survived by two sisters, Hazel Chapman Minnick of High Point and Joyce Chapman Brown (Albert) of Salisbury. She has one nephew, Harvey E. Minnick, (Gina) and four nieces, Brenda Chapman Minnick of High Point, Cindy Brown Amerson (Allen) of Salisbury, Libby Brown Laxton (Charles) of Hudson and Jeannie Brown Farrell (Joe), of Granite Falls. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Susan Wray; special daughter-in-law, Connie P. Wray; her grandchildren, Stephanie and Taw Hodges, Brittany Michelle Wray, Jace and Andrea Wray and Jade Kelli Wray; greatgrandchildren, Clayton and Alison Hodges, and Tanner Wray-Dudley; stepgrandson, Will and Jamie Wilson; and step great-grandchildren, Daniel, Amelia and Graceann Wilson. She is also survived by her special cousins, considered the "Golden Girls," Zenith Lawrence, Blandy Frettful and Patty Martin. Funeral Services will be conducted from Woodlawn Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2011, with the Rev. Eddie Hawks officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 30 Woodlawn Drive, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Her family will receive friends on Sunday, April 24, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lynch ConnerBowman Funeral Home. on April 23, 2011.5

(Freeda) Brown, Rocky Mount; and Mrs. James L. (Carmel) Powell, Greer, S.C; three brothers, Junior Holcomb, Reidsville, N.C; Aaron Holcomb, Md; and Clinton Holcomb, Bassett; four sisters, Mrs. Laura Love, Martinsville; Mrs. Jewel Stultz, Md; Mrs. Joseph (Beatrice) Stultz, Md; and Mrs. Arthur (Jean) Linkous, Bassett; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. on April 22, 1986.7

Surviving are her children, Charles R. Brown, Jr. (Peggy), Carl W. Brown, Susan B. Rea (Terry), and Linda B. Davis (Mike); two grandsons, Bobby Rea (Stephanie), Stephen Brown; great-grandson, Ethan Rea; brother, Wayne Holcomb; brother and sister-in-law, DL and Bobbie Holcomb; sister-in-law, Shirley Holcomb; brother-in-law, Jim Powell; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was a lifelong active member of Fork Mountain United Methodist Church where she was historian, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Fork Mountain Rescue Squad. Holcomb, and Barbara P. Dunkley; as well as numerous nieces; nephews; and friends.
