April's life was marked by her deep love for family and the joy she found in being surrounded by those she held dear. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Martha; and children, Christopher of Salem, and Janet and husband, Michael Slaughter, of Roanoke. Grandchildren are Derek and wife, Jenny Slaughter, of Riner, and Emily Slaughter, of Roanoke. Brothers are Lloyd Jay Main, of Shawsville, James M. Main, of Salem, and Tommy Main, of Radford. Sisters are Virgie Belle Sweeney, of Salem, and Martha Fitzgerald, of Elliston. He was predeceased by a sister, Regent Rakes, and a brother, Elmon Main. He served in the United States Navy in World War II, and was a U.S. Army Sergeant in the Korean Conflict. He was a quiet man that loved being with his family. He retired from teaching auto mechanics with the Montgomery County Schools. He was a member of Cave Spring United Methodist Church. Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Cave Spring United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ronnie Morris and the Rev. Arthur Wingfield will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will be in East Hill Cemetery in Salem. The family will receive friends at Oakeys South Chapel on Brambleton Ave. from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2008.
