Mrs. Poff is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Kerry and Lorie Poff of Greensboro; daughter, Valerie Poff Phillips of Browns Summit; son-in-law, Robin Phillips of Tallahassee, Fla; sisters, Lena McMillan of Fountain Valley, Calif., Nedaro Authemeith of Atkins, Va., Viola Simmerman of Atlanta, Ga; and brother, Sherwood Cornett of Marion, Va. She is also survived by her grandchildren, David Phillips, Scott Phillips, Ren Phillips, Sara Phillips, Jessie Phillips of Browns Summit, and Katie Dryden of Greensboro. Mrs. Poff was predeceased in death by her husband, Cecil Poff and her son, Sherwinn Poff. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2001 at the Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Street Chapel. Wayne Lemonde Duncan was born on December 12, 1923 at Roanoke, Virginia.5,2 He married Catherine Barlow circa 1977.2 Wayne Lemonde Duncan died on September 5, 2008 at Smithfield, Isle of Wright Co., Virginia, at age 84.5,2 He SMITHFIELD - Wayne Lemonde Duncan, 84, passed away peacefully at his residence Sept. 5, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. Wayne was a native of Roanoke, Va., and the former executive vice president and chairman of the board of Smithfield Packing and president of Duncan Foods International. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. Wayne was a member of the North Suffolk Rotary Club, the North Suffolk Social Club, Smithfield German Club, and Cedar Point Country Club. Wayne served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a naval aviator. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel H. and Constance Duncan and brother, S. Gordon Duncan. Wayne leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 31 years, Catherine Barlow Duncan; his son, Wayne L. Duncan Jr. and wife Phyllis of Virginia Beach; daughters, Constance D. Grizzard of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Catherine L. Barlow of Smithfield, and Patricia B. Donaldson and husband William of Newport News; grandchildren, Wayne L. Duncan III, Jason Duncan, Tess Duncan, Mark Grizzard, Mila Nurney, Elizabeth Linville, Brooke Linville, Turner Donaldson, Katherine Donaldson; six great-grandsons, Noah, Harrison, Jordan, William, Barritt and Logan. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Dr. C. Patrick Laughlin and Susan G. Gardner for their many years of devoted care. A memorial service will be held at Cedar Point Country Club Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Gary Barker officiating. A reception will follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Isle of Wight Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431 or any SPCA. He is survived by his wife of 64 years of marriage, Blanche Poff Peters; two daughters, Ann P. Dameron of Vinton, Patricia Lynn Wood and husband, Tommy, of Harriston, Va; a son, Russell L. Peters Jr. and wife, Judith, of Daleville; a sister, Lucille P. Wright of Martinsville; a brother, George Peters and wife, Dorothy, of McDermott, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Hallie Peters of Fincastle; a special nephew, Jack Coffey and wife, Esther, of Roanoke; also surviving are six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and two stepgrandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 3, 1994, with the Rev. Raymond Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. on January 2, 1994.2
