He was a flight instructor for the Re-Certification Courses for the Texas Division of Aeronautics. He was a pilot with 5 different type ratings and held 3 types of in instructor ratings. He was a member of MENSA. Some of his many awards included the Jack Kilby Award, two NASA distinguished Service Awards, TESTA Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a member of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church and the Agape Sunday School Class. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and admired him. Visitation will be Thursday, March 16 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest. Burial will be in Greenville, TX at Memoryland Memorial Park FM 1570 800 Jack Finney Blvd. at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, 9200 Northwest Highway, Dallas, 75220.      Kathleen "Kathie" Remington GREENVILLE — Kathie Poff was born in Greenville on Sept. 4, 1936, and passed away March 19, 2011, in Dallas. She is survived by her three children, David Bush, Sarah Ellis, John Bush and wife Suzy and six grandchildren. Kathie was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Norman Poff, and her parents, Walter and Louise Remington. Kathie inspired her children to be hard-working, moral and strong-willed while following their life's passions. She was a longtime member of LLUMC. Kathie received a BFA from SMU in 1958 where she pledged Tri-Delta and received her master's in science from Texas A&M University at Commerce in 1974. She continued in post master education for an additional 13 years. Kathie was a dedicated and exemplary earth science teacher for more than 30 years who inspired others with her unwavering love and passion for earth science and education. Kathie held many officer's positions in various science organizations and received numerous awards in the fields of earth science educators. She was a core member of the Texas Earth Science Teachers Association, where she steadfastly helped earth science teachers and their students. Kathie served as both historian and president and then supported the leaders who followed in her footsteps by serving for many years on the TESTA Advisory Board. Her contributions to the organization were recognized when she was presented the TESTA Teacher of the Year Award in 1999. Kathie also served as vice president and secretary for the Science Teachers Association of Texas and was the STAT Regional Representative in the DFW metroplex. She was the 1997 program co-chair for CAST - Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching. Her numerous awards included Jake Kilby Science Teacher Award-1991, was one of 125 teachers selected by NSTA to participate in the NASA NEWMAST program-1991, Southwest GSA Earth Science Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award-1993, Dallas County Geological Society Award-1993, Texas Parks and Wildlife Award for the development of a nature center on a school ground-1994, Parkhill Junior High Golden Apple PTA Award-1995, honored book dedication from Dr. Louis Jacob in "Lone Star Dinosaurs"-1995, Winston School Science Teacher Award for Service to Science-1997, two-time Dallas Morning News Outstanding Teacher award winner. During the years Kathie volunteered her knowledge and time by serving on planning committees for teacher conferences, workshops and field trips. She was diligently active in the campaign to improve the Texas earth science curriculum. She spent many days attending the state board of education meetings where she worked enthusiastically to persuade board members to value earth science as much as she did. Kathie truly left an imprint of herself on Texas earth science. She touched the lives of so many people and will be dearly missed. He was a devoted Sunday School teacher and served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. A member of Gideon's International, he held a special interest in the prison ministry of the Roanoke Valley Gideon Camp. A respected realtor in the Roanoke Valley for more than 25 years, he was a member of the Roanoke Valley Board of Realtors and president for the year of 1991. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Barbara Mullins Poff; two sons, Walter F. Poff, Jr. and David Kevin Poff and wife, Nancy of Roanoke; two daughters, Ann Poff Hall and husband, Larry of Chesapeake, Carole Poff Stone and husband, Bryan of Forest; grandchildren, Barbara Poff Fischer and husband, Chris of Clifton, Va., Dannielle and Zach Hall, Kelly and Keri Stone, Franklin Wade Poff; and a special granddaughter, Laura Poff Snyder and husband, Robert of Haymarket, Va; three great-grandchildren, Alan Edwards, Lyndsey Castelle and Alex Fischer; a sister, Martha Hartberger of Roanoke; four sisters-in-law, Ruth Beard, Edith Sarver and Reba Poff, all of Roanoke, Barbara Poff of Conneaut, Ohio; a brother-in-law, David Mullins of Roanoke; and a number of nieces and nephews. He had a multitude of friends and was like a father to many. The family extends a special thanks to the Roanoke Memorial EM staff, Dr. Donata, John Elliott, Dr. Weaver, Dr. Dorsey and group, the 12 West nursing staff, and NTICU nurses, Amy, Susana, Chris and Peter for their care and kindness. Memorials may be made to Gideon's International Roanoke Valley Camp, P.O. Box 5142, Roanoke, Va. 24012 or New Life Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church (for the Building Fund), 5745 Airport Road, Roanoke, Va. 24012. A celebration of Walter's life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2002, from New Life Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church. Pastors Walter L. Wood and Jason Forehand will officiate. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with military honors by the U.S. Navy. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Oakey's North Chapel. on April 4, 2002.1

She worked as a nursing assistant at Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital in the pediatrics and geriatrics departments of which she retired in 1992 at the age of 65 to take care of her great grandson. In addition to her parents, Ollie was preceded in death by her husband, Homer “Red” Shreve; son, David Shreve; grandson, and Jeffrey Durham. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Pam Durham and Karen Noell and husband, Ronnie; grandchildren, Corrinna Newbanks, Bobbi Shreve, Stephanie Shreve, Scott Noell, Tammie Brewster, and Betty Noell; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. Blanche Bulah Slone died on March 1, 1995 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 91.1 She HALE, Blanche B., 91, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, March 1, 1995, at her home. She was born in Franklin County August 22, 1903, the daughter of the late Esmond C. and M. Minnie Cannaday Slone. She was the widow of Morgan C. Hale. She was preceded in death by her brother, Elton A. Slone. She was a long time and active member of the West End Presbyterian Church. The good Lord heard her prayers and granted her last wish, to die in her own bed peacefully asleep. Surviving are her three sons and two daughters-in-law, Alvin C. and Jean C. Nash Hale, Marvin L. Hale, Roanoke, Fred C. and and Ruth N. Kramper Hale, Indianapolis, Ind; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four nieces; and four nephews. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 1995 with the Rev. H.D. Scoggins officiating. Interment will be Sherwood Memorial Park. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to West End Presbyterian Church, 1200 Campbell Ave., S.W. Roanoke, Va. 24016. The family will receive friends at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 2 to 4 PM. and 7 to 9 PM. Friday. on March 3, 1995.1

He was born in Roanoke on February 4, 1921, the son of Morgan C. and Blanche Slone Hale. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and National Business College, a member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railway. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his wife of 45 years, Jean Nash Hale; his three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan H. and David A. Haynes, Roanoke, Charlotte H. and Johnson S. Moore, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Elizabeth H. and Michael A. Lemacks, Raleigh, N.C; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Kathryn and Meredith Haynes, Evan and Ryan Moore, Megan and Erica Lemacks; two brothers and sister-in-law, Fred C. Hale and Ruth K. Hale, Indianapolis, Ind., and Marvin L. Hale, Roanoke. A graveside service will be at Sherwood Memorial Park, 11 a.m. Monday, January 8, 1996, with the Rev. Robert L. Watts and the Rev. Walter M. Lockett Jr. officiating. Memorials may be made to The American Parkinson's Disease Assoc., Inc., 1250 Hylan Boulevard, Suite 4B, Staten Island, NY 10305. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel after 10 a.m. Sunday. on January 6, 1996.3

He stayed in the Reserves and was called back to active duty during the Korean War. He retired from the Air Force with a rank of Lt. Colonel. Fred was a graduate of Butler University and was employed at Naval Avionics as an Auditor and retired in 1983. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Irvington. Survivors include: his wife, Ruth; daughters, Carol Paris of Orlando, FL and Susan Hale of Indianapolis; son, Roger C. Hale of Columbus, OH; brother, Marvin L. Hale of Roanoke, VA; grandson, John C. Hilton of Orlando, FL; granddaughter, Lynn Lanning of Chicago, IL; and great grandchildren, April, Holly, Penny and Graham Lanning and Sarah and Morgan Hilton. Contributions may be made to the church or to the charity of donor's choice (Alzheimer's, Diabetes, Cancer, or Heart). There will be no calling hours and funeral services are private. Arrangements are being handled through Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center- Washington Park East. on September 10, 2003.1
