Ruth Evelyn Perdue Ruth “Doot” Perdue Gearheart, 97, of Roanoke, Virginia passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024. She was born in West Virginia on August 22, 1926 to Oma and Nellie Perdue. Ruth was part of a large family and moved to the Roanoke Valley as a child. She was preceded in death by her parents and most of her siblings, and her husband, Dewey Gearheart. Ruth graduated from William Fleming High School and went on to briefly work at the Pentagon. She returned to the Roanoke area to marry Adam “Dewey” Gearheart and start their family. Ruth was a wonderful mother who enjoyed family gatherings and Sunday dinners. She returned to work once her four children were older and retired from Blue Cross. Ruth’s faith in God was important to her. She was a member of the Roanoke Seventh Day Adventist Church since 1945. Ruth enjoyed traveling the world, and especially going on cruises. One of her last, and most memorable cruises was around the Mediterranean Sea. Ruth never met a stranger, she loved to laugh, have a good time, and would talk to just about anyone. Her family describes her as a feisty lady! Ruth loved cats, especially her grand-kitties, Oreo and Dusty. Ruth is survived by her children, Sharon Lynn Downey (L.P.), Peggy Chitwood (Mike), Steven Gearheart, and Brenda Gray; her brother, Larry Perdue; her six grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to say a special thank you to caregiver, Lori from Home Instead, and the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice (Lisa, Teresa, and Jennifer) for all the kindness and care they provided Ruth and her family. Burial to follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.2 She was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.2 She was born on August 22, 1926 at Itmann, Wyoming Co., West Virginia.1,2 She married Adam Dewey Gearheart, son of George Washington "Gus" Gearheart and Louella Elizabeth Conner, on June 29, 1946 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.1,2 As of June 29, 1946,her married name was Gearheart.1 Ruth Evelyn Perdue died on July 20, 2024 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 97.2
