She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Eugenia McNiel; and all her siblings, Glenna Manning, Marion Lancaster, Luetta Gregory, Elfreda Duncan, and Samuel McNiel.Opal was known for her kind, honest, reliable nature. She was there for many others during their time of need. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of Cave Spring United Methodist Church and worked at CMT Sporting Goods for overthirty years.The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Avenue from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2015. A memorial service will also be held at Oakey's South Chapel on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Freddie Austin and Elder Junior Conner, officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. on June 1, 2015.4

Banks was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Opal Dean McNiel Conner. He is survived by his daughter, Deanna Conner Gould and husband, Tim Gould; son, Jeff Conner and wife, Julie Conner; three grandsons, Harry Gould, Magnus Gould, and Jago Gould; and several nieces and nephews. Banks founded CMT Sporting Goods in 1970 with dear friends Richard Trent, Cary Mangus and Charly Tull. For 34 years CMT served the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas and Banks made countless friends with cherished employees and customers. Banks was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a friend to many. He was known for his intuition, sense of humor, kind nature, generosity, and supported many charities. He was a member of Head of the River Primitive Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. on September 13, 2002.8 He died on September 10, 2022 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 90.8
