John loved "his" church children dearly and had such a desire for them to meet Jesus. She was retired from Medeco Security Locks. A member of Shenandoah Baptist Church, her life was a witness to everyone who knew her of God's grace and provision. Though she suffered in many ways throughout her life, her strength, courage and her complete reliance on her Savior was an inspiration to anyone she met. Her family would like to express their thanks and undying gratitude to the staff of SICU and 10 Mountain at CRMH. Though everyone was kind and gave excellent, heartfelt care, we especially thank Bonna Keeley, RN, for her help, prayers and guidance, Hollee, for her extra loving care on Kathy's last night and to Rita, who is simply an angel sent from God. We also have a debt of gratitude we could never express to Christopher Pile, MD. Only in Heaven will he understand what a gift from God he is. He has our undying love and thanks. These health care professionals became friends, helped us through a nightmare, and in the process showed us glimpses of Heaven. Funeral services will be on Monday, March 31, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Oakey's North Chapel, with a one hour visitation begining at 10 a.m., prior to the service. Pastor Robert Alderman and the Rev. He was a member of Villa Heights Lions Club, K-Mart Breakfast Friends, and Santa Claus to many children in the Roanoke Valley through the N & W Christmas Cheer. He was a basketball coach for Williamson Road Recreation Club for over 15 years. He was a very loyal Hokie Fan. Clifton loved children and young people and had many friends all over the Roanoke Valley. Clifton 's family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2006 and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Oakey's North Chapel. Cindy was born in Roanoke, Va., on January 9, 1961. Cindy graduated from William Fleming High School in 1979. She was a varsity cheerleader and in the honor society. She graduated in the top 10 of her class. Cindy graduated from Roanoke College in 1983 with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. She was Vice-President of the Chi Omega Sorority. Cindy moved to San Diego, Calif., and started a family in 1989, having two sons. She realized that she really wanted to be a teacher and went back to school achieving her teaching certificate and degree in education. Cindy taught at the Ronald McDonald House and then she taught special needs children at Kumeyaay Elementary School. Cindy was predeceased by her father, Clifton O. Clark. She is survived by her mama, Elizabeth Clark; brother, Bob Clark and Terry; sister, Becky and husband, Steve Dietrich; sons, Malcom Jack and Brandon Jack; also her life partner, Jim Ray, who helped care for Cindy until the very end. on June 6, 2020.2

Urick Jr., of Vinton, Va., Mrs. Barbara Midkiff of Salem, Va; 27 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Mary Elvah Vest was born on February 27, 1918 at Virginia.5,3,6 She died on April 11, 2008 at Virginia at age 90.6,4 She Elvah Vest Smith, 90, of Vinton, passed away Friday, April 11, 2008. She was a member of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church. Elvah was a charter member of the Vinton Women's Club. She was a hairdresser in her home for many years. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William M. (Bill) Urick Jr. and James E. Smith Sr; and also by a son, William M. (Mickey) Urick III. Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Nancy H. Urick, of Vinton; One grandson, Tim Urick, of Roanoke; a granddaughter, Dena Urick D'Aiuto and her husband, Jeff, of Goodview; a greatgranddaughter, Jewell Anne McRoy, of Goodview; a nephew, Stephen Urick, of Roanoke; and a great-nephew, Brandon Urick, of Virginia Beach. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2008, in Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. Donald W. Baldwin officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 13, 2008, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221. on April 13, 2008.4

     Golda Lee "Goldie" Payne was buried at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.5 She was born on December 7, 1907 at Fayette Co., West Virginia.1,3,5 She married Frank Everett Vest, son of William Crawford "Will" Vest and Mary Prudence Hall, on December 28, 1925 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.1,2,3,4 As of December 28, 1925,her married name was Vest.3 Golda Lee "Goldie" Payne died on January 13, 1966 at Newport News, Virginia, at age 58.4,5 She Mrs. Goldie Lee Vest, 58, of 23 Culpepper Ave., Newport News, died Thursday in Riverside Hospital after several weeks illness. She had been a Newport News resident the past 11 years and was a native of West Virginia. Surviving are her husband, Everett Vest; her father, W. J. Payne of Sprague, W.Va; four sisters, Mrs. Opal Bowden of Yuma, Ariz., Mrs. Oma Sampson of Welch, W.Va., Mrs. May CaGenie of Allen Junction, W.Va., and Miss Genevia Payne of Sprague, W.Va; and two brothers, Oakie Payne of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Owen Payne of Baltimore, Md. on January 14, 1966.4
