Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at 10:00 am in the Buchanan Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Donald W. Chichester and Rev. Timothy Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Mill Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Buchanan Rescue Squad, PO Box 244, Buchanan, VA, the Troutville Rescue Squad, PO Box 609, Troutville, VA 24175, or Buchanan Presbyterian Church, PO Box 517, Buchanan, VA 24066. He attended Jamison Elementary and Stonewall Jackson Junior High and was graduated from Jefferson Senior High School in 1950. After serving in a United States Marine Corps rifle company in the Korean War, he earned a bachelor's degree from Roanoke College, a master's from VPI and a doctorate from the University of Virginia. A teacher at Highland Park Elementary School and Jefferson Senior High School, he served as president of the Roanoke City Schoolmasters Club. He was principal of Wakefield Combined School, Wakefield, Va., and Culpeper County High School, later serving as director of instruction for the Harrisonburg school system. From 1968 through 1996, he served at Wytheville Community College in various capacities from professor to dean of instruction and was honored with the title Professor Emeritus in 1997. In 1998, he was the graduation speaker at the request of students, faculty and administration. He also taught graduate school administration courses for U. Va. and VPI and was a past commander of Wytheville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2719. A life member of the Marine Corps League, the V.F.W. and the American Legion, he was a past president of the Wytheville Rotary Club, which honored him with a Paul Harris Fellowship. He served on the board of Wythe United Way and as an usher and member of the board of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Wytheville. Memorials may be made to the Wythe County Rescue Squad or to the charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 11, 2003 at 10 a.m. in the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Donald Stansell and Dr. Christopher Pile officiating. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Beaverdam Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Link Family Cemetery.
