     George Washington "Big" Yates was buried at George Yates Cemetery, Rt. 777, about 300 yards south of Rt. 58, Patrick Co., Virginia.^1,2 He George enlisted in the 50th Virginia Infantry Regiment of Confederate States Army. He was taken prisoner of war on May 5, 1864 at the Battle of Wilderness. He was eventually transferred to Elmira, New York and was released on Jun 19, 1865. In May of 1900 he applied for disability pension and was granted $15 annually until Sep 1907 when it was increased to $30 annually.¹ He was born on November 7, 1838 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.^1,2 He married Mary Jane Yates, daughter of Stephen Yates and Mary "Polly" Terry, on January 21, 1867 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.¹ George Washington "Big" Yates Son George W. Yates buys 94 acres of the property from his father John for $280. on January 13, 1868.¹ He died on May 27, 1922 at Patrick Co., Virginia, at age 83.^1,2

     Rodney Edward Rader was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, 1300 Mountain View Road, Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia.⁴ He was born on April 18, 1927 at Bedford Co., Virginia; His death certificate has a birth year of 1926.^2,3,4 He married Elsie Janette Martin, daughter of Ezra Granville Martin and Emma Roxie Conner, on April 26, 1947 at Bedford Co., Virginia.^1,2,5,3,4 Rodney Edward Rader died on March 24, 1969 at Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 41.⁴

     Her Social Security Number was 225-78-2357.⁵ Wanda Gale Rader was born on July 21, 1952 at Roanoke, Virginia.^5,4,3 As of February 1, 1969,her married name was Dickerson.³ She married Terry Warren Dickerson on February 1, 1969 at Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^1,3 As of circa 1972,her married name was Smith.⁴ Wanda Gale Rader married Barry A. Smith circa 1972.^1,4 Wanda Gale Rader died on March 19, 2002 at Bedford Co., Virginia, at age 49.^5,6 She SMITH, Wanda Rader, (Poodle-Doodle), 49, of Vinton, went to be with her heavenly family Tuesday, March 19, 2002. She was born in Roanoke, daughter of Elsie Rader of Roanoke and the late Rodney Rader. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband of nearly 31 years, Barry A. Smith; her three children, Barry E. (Eddie) and his wife, Jennifer of Roanoke, Thomas A. Smith and his wife, Sara of Roanoke, Lawanna Marie Hudson and her husband, J. Wes of Vinton; five grandchildren, Natalie, Ian, Ashley, Ryan and Elizabeth; two sisters, Brenda and Barbara; and many other loving friends and family. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Friday at Belmont Christian Church. The family will receive friends after the service.      Richard Davis "Little" Yates was buried at Pocahontas Cemetery, Rt. 102, Pocahontas, Tazewell Co., Virginia.¹ He was born on June 25, 1840 at Halifax Co., Virginia.^1,2 He Richard Davis Yates served in the 50th Virginia Infantry Regiment as a Private and Corporal in Company K. He enlisted on June 22, 1861 with his brother George at Wytheville. On September 1, 1861 he was detailed as a nurse for the sick at White Sulfur Springs. He was captured at Mine Run, Virginia on November 28, 1863 and committed to the Old Capitol Prison, Washington, D.C. on December 5, 1863. He was transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland on February 4, 1864. There is no record of his being released or taking the Oath of Allegiance to the United Stares. Richard Yates was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg and never had the full use of his right arm. This may have been the reason he was released from the Federal Prison at Point Lookout, Maryland before the end of the Civil War. on June 22, 1861 at Wytheville, Wythe Co., Virginia.¹ He married Mary Ann Taylor, daughter of John W. Taylor and Jane Ivie, on September 27, 1864 at Patrick Co., Virginia.^1,6,2 Richard Davis "Little" Yates Tax records show that Richard D. Yates paid a tax of $1.14 on thirty eight acres of land on the South Mayo River, about four miles from the courthouse at Stuart. This property was purchased on August 5, 1870 from Samuel G. and Caroline H. Staples for four hundred dollars. on August 5, 1870 at Patrick Co., Virginia.¹ He Richard D. and Mary A. Yates sold a part of his properties to G. S. Campbell for two hundred dollars. on August 24, 1878 at Patrick Co., Virginia.¹ He Richard Yeatts applied for a pension to the State of Virginia. In his application he stated that he was a member of Company K, 50th Virginia Regiment, that he was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg by a piece of shell on his shoulder, and that wound caused his right arm to waste away and become stiff. The application was approved and he was granted a pension of $15 annually. on March 28, 1888.¹ He Shortly after the death of his wife Mary Ann (Taylor) Yeatts in November 1888, Richard Davis Yates moved to Pocahontas, living first with his daughter Alice Hensley. In later years he lived with his daughter Emma Yates. Richard was known as "Little" Yates in contrast to his brother George who was known as "Big" Yates. In Pocahontas he developed Yates' Magnetic Salve, consisting of resin, beeswax, herbs and turpentine. It was used to cure all types of illnesses and ills such as toothaches, blisters and other things and sold for the price of twenty five cents a tin. in November, 1888.¹ He died on August 17, 1910 at Pocahontas, Tazewell Co., Virginia, at age 70; An Obituary says that "in his last days this estimable gentle-soldier and citizen suffered little. He was a man entirely from the vices of his fellows and ready to go to his reward."¹

     Harold Alton "Pete" Hodges was buried at Hodges Family Cemetery, 760 Fieldstone Lane, Hardy, Franklin Co., Virginia.⁵ He Harold A. Hodges "Pete", age 72 of Glade Hill, passed away Friday, September 9, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Catherine Hodges and brother, Dan Hodges. Surviving are his daughter, Lea Altizer; son, Greg Hodges; nine grandchildren including his caregiver, James D. Altizer; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Eames (Lee) and Gladys Taylor (Jimmy). A graveside service will be held at the Hodges Family Cemetery, 760 Fieldstone Lane, Hardy, VA.⁵ He was born on December 14, 1949 at Rocky Mount, Franklin Co., Virginia.^3,4 He married Martha Jane King, daughter of Hobson Galen King and Trixie Mae Virginia Craighead, on August 17, 1974 at Rocky Mount, Franklin Co., Virginia.^1,2,4,6 Harold Alton "Pete" Hodges and Martha Jane King were divorced on August 24, 1981 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.^2,6 Harold Alton "Pete" Hodges died on September 9, 2022 at Virginia at age 72.⁵

     Helen Marie Maxey was buried at Wilson Cemetery, Daniel's Run Road (Rt. 661), Locust Grove, Floyd Co., Virginia.¹ She was born on April 26, 1926 at Floyd, Floyd Co., Virginia.¹ She married Loys Rayburn Conner, son of Moses Allen "Moze" Conner and Nettie Gay Conner, on October 18, 1947 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^7,8,2 As of October 18, 1947,her married name was Conner.² Helen Marie Maxey and Loys Rayburn Conner were divorced in 1980; No children.⁸ Helen Marie Maxey died on May 11, 2015 at Virginia at age 89.¹ She Helen Marie Maxey Conner, 89, of Salem, passed away Monday, May 11, 2015. She was born in Floyd, Va., to the late Vernon and Edith Maxey. Preceding her in death was her beloved foster brother, Cline Adam Conner, and special friend, Roy Britt. She is survived by Mary Conner, her foster sister-in-law; Jenny Conner Hale, granddaughter and husband, Jason Hale; Melissa Conner Saville, granddaughter and husband, Mitch Saville; Nathaniel Cline Hale and Serenity Faith Hale, great-grandchildren; Geraldine Conner Hill, niece and husband, Gene Hill; Brenda Conner Surber, niece and husband, Breece Surber; Kathy Conner Haley, niece and husband, Jimmy Haley; Kenneth William Conner, nephew, and wife, Wanda Conner; Renee' Hill Abshire, great-niece and honored friend and husband, Darryl Abshire; and many other great-nieces and great-nephews. One very special companion, Buddy, will miss her too. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015, at Wilson Cemetery, Check, Va. Tim Hill, great-nephew, will officiate.      Susan Jane Yates was buried at Mills, Carter, Anderson, Pigg Cemetery, Claudville, Patrick Co., Virginia.⁶ She was born in February, 1842 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia; Her gravestone and death certificate have a birth date of Mar 8, 1840.^1,7,6,2 As of September 13, 1866,her married name was Pigg.⁸ She married Thomas C. "Tom" Pigg on September 13, 1866 at Patrick Co., Virginia.^9,10,8,3 Susan Jane Yates died on October 5, 1924 at Dan River, Patrick Co., Virginia, at age 82.²

     James Govenor Light was buried at Iddings Cemetery, near intersection of Daniel's Run Road and Huffville Road, Terrys Fork, Floyd Co., Virginia.^5,6 He was born on March 2, 1888 at Terrys Fork, Floyd Co., Virginia.^5,1,6,2,4 He married Edith Ethel Clower, daughter of William Letcher Clower and Luanna Annie Iddings, on May 21, 1923 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,6,4 James Govenor Light died on December 22, 1923 at age 35; James was accidentally shot and killed while crossing a fence with a loaded shotgun.^5,4
