He was the son of the late Floyd W. and Janie Webster Freeman. He served in WWII with the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a member of the VFW Post 1264. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Earnest, Robert, and Floyd Freeman. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Stella Craighead Freeman; children, Norma F. He was loved by all and will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 14, 2004 at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.      Kevin Wayne Limerick Kevin W. Fitzgerald, 46, died unexpectedly April 16, 2020, at his residence in Alcoa, TN. He was born Oct. 31, 1973, in Fredricksburg, VA, the son of M.R. Fitzgerald Jr. and Penny (Cousins) Fitzgerald. Kevin graduated from Pellissippi State Community College with an associate's degree. He served the Blount County Community over 17 years with the BCRS, BCFD, Blount Memorial ER, Children's Hospital ER, 911 Dispatch and Blount County AMR. He was married to Kristen (Caughron) Fitzgerald in 2018. Kevin was a devoted father, grandfather, husband and great friend. He was predeceased by mother, Penny Fitzgerald; grandparents, M.R. Sr. and Pauline Fitzgerald, as well as, George and Madeline Cousins. Surviving are his father, M.R. Fitzgerald Jr; daughter and son-in-law, Whitney and Jonathon Darnell; daughter, Jordon Fitzgerald and her fiance, Frank Still; grandchildren, Kai Still and Madalynn Darnell; wife, Kristen Fitzgerald and her children, Madison and Grayson Carney.³ His name was legally changed to Kevin Wayne Fitzgerald.^2,3,4 He was born on October 31, 1973 at Fredericksburg, Virginia.^1,3,4 He married Kristen Caughron in 2018.³ Kevin Wayne Limerick died on April 16, 2020 at Alcoa, Blount Co., Tennessee, at age 46.³

     Mandred Russer Fitzgerald Jr. Mandred R. Fitzgerald Jr., 77, died suddenly March 20, 2021 surrounded by his loving grandchildren. He was born March 22, 1943 in Salem VA, the son of Mandred R. Fitzgerald Sr. and Pauline Long Fitzgerald. Mandred served in Vietnam as a U.S. Marine, and also worked as a RV mechanic with Chilhowee RV for many years. Mandred was a devoted father to one son, husband to his late wife Penny Fitzgerald, grandfather to two grandchildren and “Ha-Paw” to his three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father Mandred Sr. and Pauline Fitzgerald, Wife: Penny Fitzgerald, Son Kevin W. Fitzgerald. He is survived by his Granddaughter Whitney Darnell and her Husband Jonathon Darnell, and their child Madalynn of Maryville, TN, Granddaughter Jordon Fitzgerald and her children Kai and Nadilee Still, Also Surviving are his siblings Berry and Benny Fitzgerald and Sister Faye.⁴ He was born on March 22, 1943 at Waynesboro, Augusta Co., Virginia.^2,3,4 He married Penny Juanita Cousins, daughter of George Cleveland Cousins and Madeline Catherine Levale "Mitty" Conner, on December 11, 1976 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.^5,6,1,2 Mandred Russer Fitzgerald Jr. died on March 20, 2021 at Maryville, Blount Co., Tennessee, at age 77.⁴

     Zachariah Ellsworth "Zack" Carr was buried at Head of the River Cemetery (also known as Salem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery), Rt. 221, Check, Floyd Co., Virginia.^8,9 He was born on July 25, 1859 at Floyd Co., Virginia; His death certificate has a birth date of Jul 25, 1857.^10,2,7 He married Mahala Catherine Manning, daughter of Cary Manning and Mahala Cole, on January 30, 1879 at Floyd Co., Virginia.² Zachariah Ellsworth "Zack" Carr died on September 10, 1931 at Keystone, McDowell Co., West Virginia, at age 72.^7,4 He Zachary E. Carr, 72, was instantly killed when struck by a local freight engine at Keystone, Thursday. The accident occurred just east ot the Norfolk and Western station in Keystone, a short distance from Mr. Carr’s home. Mr. Carr had been a resident of Keystone about ten years. He had lived a retired life for some time. He came originally from the Simpsons community, Floyd county, Virginia. He is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. J. T. Iddings of Eckman; Mrs. W. S. Light of Keystone; McKinley Carr of Bluefield, and James, Mark, V. T. and C. O. Carr, all of Simpsons, Va. He also is survived by his wife. Interment was made at Copper Hill, Floyd county, Virginia. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist church. on September 13, 1931.⁴

     Nancy Vest was buried at Moran-Agee Cemetery, about mile post 150, Blue Ridge Parkway, Floyd Co., Virginia.⁴ She was born on August 18, 1816 at Franklin Co., Virginia.⁴ She married Simpson Richards on May 1, 1832 at Floyd Co., Virginia.¹ As of May 1, 1832,her married name was Richards. Nancy Vest died on June 7, 1901 at Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 84.^4,3

     Sarah "Sally" James was born on April 12, 1802 at Virginia.² She married Littleberry "Berry" Vest, son of John Vest and Agnes Davidson, on January 3, 1817 at Franklin Co., Virginia.¹ As of January 3, 1817,her married name was Vest. Sarah "Sally" James died on May 18, 1878 at Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 76.²

Blanche Dr., passed away Friday, August 4, 2006 in a Norfolk hospital. She was a native of Roanoke, Va. and attended Southside Baptist Church in Suffolk. She was self-employed. Donna is survived by her husband, Gary Michael Jones; her mother, Mildred Arlene Wheeler of Thaxton, Va; two daughters, Christy Marie Mathews and husband, Eric, of Chesapeake and Catherine Annette Wilson of Maryland; and her three sons, Scott Jason Conner and wife, Sabrina, of Suffolk, Shannon Michael Jones of Chesapeake, and Kolby Michael Jones of Chesapeake. She was predeceased by her father Frank Collins Cross. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Noah Knowles, Kolby Jones, Riana Conner, Tyler Jones McQuigg, Cassidy Wilson, Micah Conner and Kelsey Wilson. She was also survived by two sisters, Barbara Flinchum, and Terry Cochran; and two brothers, Bruce Johnson and Todd Cross. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. on August 6, 2006.⁵
