     Larry Sherlyn Matz was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^5,4 He Matz, Larry Sherlyn, age 82 passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017. Larry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Larry retired from General Electric after many years of employment in Salem, Va. In retirement, Larry enjoyed baling and selling hay to the community, riding his tractor helping people in the community, watching Nascar after church on Sunday's and spending time with family and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his wife Jacqueline Mills Matz (1981), and his father and mother Edgar & Lunzie Matz (1994), sister Peggy M. Booth (2010), sister, Ginger Smith (2013), brother James (June) Matz (2013). He is survived by wife Frances Matz of Elliston, VA, children Sherlyn (Rocky) A. Matz of Elliston, VA, Richard L. Matz of Atlanta, Ga, Tana S. Orange (Donald) of Snellville, Ga. and Teresa Alley of Roanoke, VA, two grandsons, Thomas A. Matz (Ashley) of Vinton, VA, Cory L. Orange of Snellville, Ga, great grandson, Peyton Matz of Natural Bridge, Va. brother Randy Holland of Macon, Ga, brother in law Doug Smith of Elliston, VA, and sister in law Ardith Matz of Shawsville, Va. She will be remembered as someone that had a tremendous work ethic as she never left a job unfinished, as someone who loved planning family gatherings, as she loved spending time around those she loved, but above all, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will truly be missed. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Saunders. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Carson Cox; sons, Ricky Akers and wife, Joyce, and Fred Akers and wife, Penny; daughter, Diane Guthrie and fiance, Ralph Lovern; brothers, Cecil Saunders and wife, Debbie, Arnold Saunders and Donald Saunders; sisters, Bea McNeil and husband, Morris, and Frances Matz and husband, Larry; grandchildren, Michael Stafford, Kevin Stafford, Amanda Akers and Megan Akers. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Polly McNeil. Ron proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a jack of all trades; a great storyteller who loved a good joke (or not so good joke), could patch your roof, sand your floor, repair your car, style your hair and paint you a pretty bird.
