Roger Dale Scott1,2,3,4,5
M, b. October 31, 1950, d. March 3, 2021
Roger Dale Scott Roger Dale Scott was born October 31, 1950 at the Barnes Clinic in King City, MO. His parents were Dale and Betty (Eierdanz) Scott. He had one sibling, a sister, Eva Mae. The farm and family home was located on the lush farming area known as Empire Prairie. This was to be the only home community Roger would ever know and ever want to know. Roger attended first and second grade in the one room Empire Prairie School, located just down the road from his home. There were only four in his class, Craig Gibson, Mike Worthington, Sue Akins Washburn, and Roger. He attended third grade in the basement of one of the King City churches as the addition to the King City school was not yet completed. He continued to attend King City School and graduated in 1968. Many of his classmates remained very close and lived in the area. Roger was proud to be on the 50-year class reunion committee. Eva says her big brother was her “protector” especially on the school bus. When she received her driver’s learning permit, Roger went to town with her and then let her drive around town in HIS pickup with her friends by herself. (Their Dad did not approve) Roger was very active in 4H with the Empire Prairie Hustlers, and horsemanship skills with Prairie Saddle Pals riding horses at Freeman Howell’s arena. Beginning January 1969 Roger attended 2 winter ag sessions at Iowa State in Ames, IA, returning to the Prairie for the farming season. He joined the National Guard in the summer of 1970 completing basic training in the fall of the same year. Through the six years of weekend warrioring and summer guard camps, many stories have been told and he loved re-telling every one! March 18, 1973 Roger married Joyce Palmer in the big town of McFall, MO. Of course, the location of the married “home” was obviously Empire Prairie. After 47 years, Joyce would not have had it any other way. Thanking the Lord daily, to this union was born a son Brian Dean Scott. From a very early age Roger became a tractor pull addict. His father, Dale, loved tractor pulling. There was not much “time off” from farming, but there was time for tractor pulling. It is safe to say the highlight of his life was the time of the Prairie Prowler. This was the pulling tractor that was re-created by Roger and the pride of his life, his son, Brian. This was the basis of Brian’s business Prairie Performance which has high esteem in the tractor pulling world. Roger was so proud of Brian and Megan’s “pulling world”. Roger was proud to carry on the tradition of sales of Pfister Hybrids started by his father. He was honored to receive numerous awards for high corn yields. Roger was a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge moving from Whitesville to King City to Albany as the dwindling active memberships caused the closing of the lodges. He was enormously proud of the Master Mason work. In recent years Roger became highly active in the American Legion Post 132 located in King City, serving as commander the last three years. He held very high regard to the solemn full military rites ceremony. Roger was an active member of Star Chapel United Methodist. He was the primary leader in the final resting of this historic church. He graciously moved his membership to Hammer Memorial Methodist in King City where he attended regularly until COVID. Finally choosing to cash rent his row crop land, Roger was able to say yes to travel with friends. What a great time for all friends, near and far! Damn COVID for robbing the entire year of 2020 when so many great plans had been made. March 3, 2012, Roger welcomed with open arms additional family members of Brian’s bride Megan and her two wonderful children, Mason and Morgan. The family has been stricken with fear and struggle as Megan was diagnosed in October 2020 with cervical cancer. Roger was devastated and rigidly tried to obey the COVID law, while struggling with the social nature of his being. Even under sedation he was nodding his head when told that Megan and Brian had received their first COVID vaccinations. Throughout his 70 years agriculture was the total being of his life. Sadly, it looks like that is what took him from this earthly world. Through the last seven months it became harder for Roger to “catch his breath” after exertion from walking, climbing into cabs, etc. Three weeks ago, when he went to ER for help to breathe, he had not a clue that added oxygen and/or breathing treatments would not be a fix. After lengthy tests (including 2 COVID tests) he was diagnosed with Interstitial Pneumonia or Interstitial Lung Disease Non-Specific. There is no known fix and no way to determine the cause for certain. Breathing anhydrous fumes, chemical agricultural sprays, hog dust, grain bin dust, ashes and suet from burned buildings, fungus from bull dozing soil that had not seen sun for years, etc we assume were all contributing factors to the scarring and hardening of the lungs. They became hard like a dry sponge and nothing the medical world knew could make them pliable again. It was hoped that the breathing tube and feeding tube could provide the rest they needed to revive. Although he was not conscious it was evident how much work it was just to breathe. The probability of quality of life became lesser as time passed, whether it be with brain waves, memory, eating, and even the ability to talk. Even though the family has no regrets that every possible test and treatment had been performed, it was still the quality of life that caused the difficult decision for the hospice finality. Roger passed from this earthly agricultural world at 4:00 pm March 3, 2021 at Mosaic Life, St Joseph, MO. Per his wishes, he then became an organ/tissue donor. There will be a private ceremony with full military rites at the Star Chapel Cemetery. Roger will be missed by the family including nieces and nephews, extended family and multitudes of friends. The family loves you all, but there is nothing for the family nor you to say at this time. Silent prayers of strength and understanding will be heard by our Lord and felt by the entire family.5 He was buried at Star Chapel United Methodist Cemetery, Empire Prairie, Andrew Co., Missouri.5 He was born on October 31, 1950 at King City, Gentry Co., Missouri.4,5 He married Joyce Elaine Palmer, daughter of William Doris Palmer and Vilma Maxine Harris, on March 18, 1973 at Gentry Co., Missouri.1,2,3,5 Roger Dale Scott died on March 3, 2021 at St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., Missouri, at age 70.5

Billy Wayne "Bill" Fry1,2,3,4
M, b. February 25, 1944, d. October 5, 2023
Billy Wayne "Bill" Fry Billy Wayne Fry, age 79, passed away quietly in the early morning hours of October 5, 2023, from congestive heart failure. Bill was born on February 25, 1944, in Greenville, TX to Oliver Wendall Fry and Carrie Frances (Prewitt) Fry. At the age of 6, his family moved to Kansas City North where he had resided most of his life. Bill graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1962, and attended NW MO State University, Maryville MO, and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. He was a founding father of the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity at both universities. At the age of 20, Bill married his soulmate, Marcie A. (Rice) Fry. To this 59-year union, two children were born: William Lee Fry and John (Jack) Oliver Fry. Being a gifted salesman, Bill began his working career in the steel tubing industry with C. A. Roberts Co. in North Kansas City. At the age of 23, Bill received greetings from Uncle Sam and was drafted into the US Army for a 2-year stint. After basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood and AIT at Ft. Knox, KY, Bill was stationed in Berlin, Germany to serve with the 40th Armor Special Troops, Berlin Brigade for the remainder of his service. Bill was proud of his service and considered this to be a highlight of his life. He rose to the rank of Sergeant E-5, was joined by his wife for most of his stint in Berlin and their first son was born there. Returning to civilian life, Bill continued his career in the steel industry for several years as a salesman traveling the central mid-western states and representing Brown-Strauss Steel, Tube & Steel, and Bull Moose Tube Co. in St. Louis. After promotion to Sales Manager for Bull Moose, Bill realized that he missed direct contact with his customers and perhaps climbing the corporate ladder was not really his thing. He moved his family from St. Louis back to Kansas City and began his own business in late 1981, initially continuing to represent the steel industry. The business, Fry & Associates, Inc., quickly evolved into a manufacturer’s representative in the park and commercial playground industry, supplying equipment and play surfacing to schools, city parks, churches, daycare facilities, etc. in the 4-state area of Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska. Bill and his wife, Marcie, have retired from the family business but it continues to be successful under the leadership of Bill’s sons and their wives after more than 40 years. After retirement, Bill continued his involvement with the North Kansas City Breakfast Club and the Hodge Park Senior Golf League where he has built several strong and lasting friendships over the years. As Bill’s health failed, he missed his golf buddies the past two years but was able to continue attending the Thursday morning Breakfast Club meetings almost to the end. We know he will be missed by his numerous friends as well as his family. Bill was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Terry A. Fry, and his sister, Jenny D. Lowe. He leaves his wife, Marcie, and his two sons, William (Margie) and Jack (Marygold), four grandchildren, Amber, Tianna, Ben, and Aliyah, and three great grandchildren, all of whom reside in the Kansas City area. He also leaves brothers-in-law Thomas W. Rice (Carol), and Larry D. Rice (Jennifer) of Grove, OK, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him dearly.4 He was born on February 25, 1944 at Greenville, Hunt Co., Texas.2,3,4 He married Marcie Ann Rice, daughter of Jack Marion Rice and Marcie Maxine Frendle, on March 27, 1964 at Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri.1,2,4 Billy Wayne "Bill" Fry died on October 5, 2023 at Missouri at age 79.4

Morton was born on March 21, 1945, in Kansas City, the son of Morton and Mary (VanKemseke) Rice. He was united in marriage to Sandra McLaughlin of Kansas City on February 1, 1964, she survives of the home. Riley loved music, he was in 3 different bands throughout his life, and shared his love of music with his family by teaching his sons and grandchildren how to play guitar. He also loved racing, whether it be himself or one of his kids at the wheel. He was the Wheelwright at the Lathrop Fairgrounds, where he enjoyed sharing with others the art of not only making wheels for carriages and buggy’s but going above that and building the actual carriages and wagons themselves. He loved the farm life, raising and showing draft horses; he built the cart and harness for the draft horses. He loved his family dearly, so vacations and family time were Riley's favorite. He took his family to Colorado almost every year to fish and hike. Riley worked at the Body Shop at Ford Motor company for 30 years. Riley was a jack-of-all-trades, he worked on CB radios, race cars, computers, was a mechanic/engineer, a certified firefighter and EMT, repaired antiques, and was a carpenter. If Riley wanted to learn something, he not only learned it, but mastered it. His thirst for life and knowledge will be greatly missed by all who knew him.3 He was born on March 21, 1945 at Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri.2,3 He married Sandra Sue McLaughlin on February 1, 1964.3 Morton Riley Rice died on April 8, 2022 at North Kansas City, Clay Co., Missouri, at age 77.3
