     George Washington Smith was buried at GAR Cemetery, Homer, Vermilion Co., Illinois.2 He was born on October 17, 1871 at Vermilion Co., Illinois.2 He married Rosie Baumgart circa 1930.2 George Washington Smith Funeral rites for George W. Smith, 78, who died Thursday at his home in Clark school neighborhood northwest of Homer, were conducted Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church. Rev. Lloyd Clapp, Baptist minister from Champaign, officiated. Military burial services in GAR cemetery was in charge of Homer post No. 290, American Legion. On the firing squad were Ernest Wienke, Jr., Mendel Forsythe, Lawrence Ellis, John Morrison, John Baird, Keith Taylor, Charles Hopper, Kenneth Fish and Wayne Brewer. George Hodgson was an honorary pall bearer and Floyd Lacey, commander of Homer post, presented the flag used to drape the casket to Mrs. Smith. Pall bearers were Art Ford, Gordon freeman, Herman Stevens, Ben Ghere, John Hillard and Ernest Larkin. Carrying flowers were Rose Bishop, Mrs. James Allison, Mrs. Clark Hunt and Mrs. Hobart Weber, all granddaughters, and Mrs. Lawrence Bear and Beverly Rodgers. Mr. Smith was born Oct. 17, 1871, near Oakwood, son of Fielding and Nancy Cunningham Smith. He was married to Mrs. Rosie Baumgart 20 years ago and they moved to Clark neighborhood about eight years ago. Mr. Smith was engaged in farming. Surviving in addition to the widow are two stepdaughters, Mrs. William Steffey, Homer, and Mrs. William Rushing, St. Joseph; a sister, Mrs. Laura B. Lane, Oakwood, and a brother, Isaac, Oakwood. on August 10, 1950.2 He died on August 19, 1950 at Homer, Champaign Co., Illinois, at age 78.2
