Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2001 at 2 p.m. from the Gardner Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. S. G. Bolt officiating. Interment will follow in the Pratt Cemetery. Friends may call Friday after 1 p.m. at the Gardner Funeral Home, where the family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. The family will be at the home of Iva Dell Hollandsworth, Akers Ave., Floyd, at other times. Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. on February 9, 2001.3

     John H. Chatham was buried at Highland Cemetery, 6th and N. Fairview Streets, Lock Haven, Clinton Co., Pennsylvania.2,7,9,8 He was born on October 27, 1821 at Lockport, Clinton Co., Pennsylvania.1,2,7,8 He married Priscilla Jane Welsh on June 9, 1853 at Bellefonte, Centre Co., Pennsylvania.1,2,10 John H. Chatham died on May 12, 1906 at Lock Haven, Clinton Co., Pennsylvania, at age 84.7 He John Chatham, one of Lock Haven's oldest and most highly esteemed citizens, passed away at 11:40 o'clock Saturday night as the result of a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Chatham was 84 years and 7 months of age, but he was as spry as a man of 60 up to the time he was stricken on Friday afternoon. The stroke paralyzed his left side, but he remained conscious up to 10 o'clock Saturday night when he sank into a deep sleep from which be never awoke, death coming at 11.40. Mr. Chatham was born at Lockport on Oct. 27, 1821 in a house that stood where the old Smith hotel now stands. His whole life has been spent in this vicinity, being known all over the state. He was a member of the firm of Chatham, Devling & Co., who operated a general store at Flemington 40 or 50 years ago. They also dealt extensively in grain. During tbe Civil war he conducted a hotel at Flemington and after the close of the war he went into the lumber business and was a heavy operator for a number of years. One season he hid 165 rafts on the dam here at one time. When the Bald Eagle Valley railroad was built he took a contract and built fifty miles of the road west from Flemingtan. On this contract be lost heavily through defaulting contractors. Mr. Chatham was married in 1852 to Pricilla Jane Welsh of Bald Eagle township and they took their wedding tour to Philadelphia by picket boat on the canal. Seven children, six of whom are living, were born to this union. They are Mrs. L. M. Halloway of Salona, Ira L. Chatham of xxxx Lodge, Mont., Mrs. C. C. Rote, Mrs. W. B. Holloway and John Chatham of Boston, Lincoln Chatham of Darango, Mex and Cordelia Chatham, deceased. Mr. Chatham was a generous hearted man, respected and beloved by all who knew him and his familiar figure will be badly missed on tbe streets. The funeral will occur from the residence of his neice, Mrs. Robert Wilson, on East Church street, where he made his home, at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Dr. H. K. Bander will conduct the service and the remains will be interred in Highland cemetery. on May 14, 1906.7

Born Virginia Sisson in Bent Mountain, Va., she was raised on the family farm and graduated in 1939 from the Lewis-Gale School of Nursing, now part of the Jefferson College of Health Sciences, in Roanoke, Va. Mrs. Cate moved to Baltimore in 1941 and worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital until the early 1970s, said her daughter-in-law, Susan Evans of Parkville. She left to work at the Montebello Rehabilitation Hospital, where she was the head nurse for more than eight years. While at Johns Hopkins, she worked with Dr. Richard W. TeLinde, a nationally renowned gynecologist. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Parkville, the Johns Hopkins Women's Board and other organizations. She also was a member of the Valley Country Club and Maryland Golf and Country Club. In 1941 she married David H. Evans, who died in 1965. In 1981, she married Clifford W. Cate, who died in 1999. Services were held Sunday. Survivors include a daughter, Roxann Kelly of Timonium; a son, David M. Evans of Parkville; four sisters, Mildred Asbury of Lynchburg, Va., Margaret Strickler of Blacksburg, Va., Betty Jones of Olney and Francis Prentiss of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. on September 13, 2005.6

Mildred had three children, Joyce Adkins, Dwight Asbury and Debbie Asbury all three living in and around Lynchburg. She is survived by four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Mildred was an ordained minister and a registered evangelist in the Church of the Nazarene. She served the Church of the Nazarene for 67 years. Ordained at age 24, she served as pastor of 12 churches and was active in the Church of the Nazarene until her death. She was an inspiration thourghtout her life with her positive and grateful attitude. Family will receive friends from 3 until 4:30 p.m., today, Sunday, September 21, 2014, at Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory, 427 Graves Mill Road, Lynchburg. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, September 22, 2014, at the Lynchburg Church of the Nazarene, 1737 Wards Ferry Rd, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be held 3 p.m., Monday, September 22, 2014, at Evergreen Burial Park, 1307 Summit Ave., SW, Roanoke. on September 21, 2014.6

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Sisson of Roanoke; her sisters, Claudine Chumney, of Blackstone, and Louise Cate, of Baltimore, Md. Margaret is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Becky Strickler, of Rocky Mount, Va; her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Forrest Curtis, of Blacksburg; four grandchildren, Lori Wright, of Roanoke, Melissa Strickler, of Rocky Mount, Va., Jada Fingleton and husband, Wayne, of Chesapeake, and Chad Curtis, of Blacksburg; and four greatgrandchildren; three sisters, Mildred Asbury, of Lynchburg, Betty Jones of Olney, Md., and Frances Prentiss, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla; one brother-in-law, Aubrey Chumney, of Blackstone; and loving nieces and nephews. In the 1940's, Margaret worked as a lab technician for the Radford Arsenal and Va Tech. She always made a wonderful home for her husband and children. She was a long time member of the Blacksburg United Methodist Church and belonged to Circle #5. When her children were young, she volunteered in the schools, and was a scout leader. Margaret's children are so thankful for their precious mother who cared for them and loved their father and gave them a home filled with love and security. They are also grateful and blessed for the heritage of Jesus Christ she left for them. The family would like to express their thanks for all the love and prayers poured out for them by their church family, friends and caregivers. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March, 14, 2008, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Reggie Tuck and the Rev. Morris Fleischer officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carilion Hospice Services of New River Valley, 707 Randolph St., Suite 251, Radford, Va. 24141. Friends may call any time after 12noon Thursday, March 13, 2008, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg, Va. on March 12, 2008.7
