Mr. Poff had lived in Bluewell since 1954 and was a member of the Bluewell United Methodist Church. He graduated from Northfork High School in 1948. He then went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning home, Fred worked and retired as a route salesman for Coppinger and Eimco. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Survivors include his wife, Doloros “Boots” Bailey Poff of the home; one daughter, Rita Thompson and husband Sam of Bluewell, W.Va; one brother, Edward Poff and wife Stella of Bluewell, W.Va; two grandchildren, Adam and Megan Thompson; two sisters-in-law, Irene Poff and Minnie Poff. Funeral services will be held for Mr. Poff on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, W.Va. with the Reverend Stephen Rector and the Reverend D. Homer Stewart officiating the service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, W.Va. with friends and family serving as pallbearers. The West Virginia Honor Guard will be conducting military graveside rites. Friends and family can call at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, W.Va. on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the Poff family ask that memorial contributions be made to Bluewell United Methodist Church, Rt. 4 Warden Ave. Bluefield, WV 24701, and/or Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Church life was very important to him; he loved to teach God's Word and sing. It was important to him that people knew about the Lord and His goodness. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley, Blacksburg, Va., with the Reverend T. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, son Alvin, two daughters, Pat Cassell and Jeania Wilson and a granddaughter, Skylar Wilson. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Janice (Mike); son and daughter-in-law, Randy and VeeVee; 12 grandchildren including her "favorite," Keily; and many great-grandchildren that she adored. Frances was a life long member of the Church of God. She was retired from Roanoke County Schools. After retiring she spent her time baby sitting her great-grandchildren and was the best sitter we could have ever asked for. Special thanks to the staff of Pheasant Ridge Nursing Home and her dear friend, Gloria, who was her guardian angel. Interment will follow in Rest Vale Cemetery, Floyd County. on January 27, 2015.2

James Harris "Jimmy" Cassell James “Jimmy” Harris Cassell, 75 of Rocky Mount, Virginia passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 6, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Jimmy was born on April 11,1949 in Stuart, Virginia. After graduating high school in 1968, he married his high school sweetheart Pat, and served in the United States Army, which he held in high regard. After completion of his service, he returned home and started his chimney cleaning business, Southern Exposed. He ran his business for 34 years retiring at the age of 64. Jimmy had a passion for gold panning and enjoyed sharing his passion with his children and grandchildren. He took pleasure in fast cars, history, books, nature, fishing and carpentry, having built his family’s home in Rocky Mount along with several pieces of furniture and art. Though he touched many lives throughout his time, the lives most important to him were his children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by his father James L., his mother Euna and his wife Pat. He leaves behind a son, Jacody Cassell; and daughter, Jada Sanders (Bob); his grandchildren, Brai Cassell (Morgan), Bree Cassell, Adava Johnson, and Ryder Sanders; his great grandson, Rhett Cassell; sister, Frankie Martin; brothers, Doug and Carlyle Kemp; and many more friends and family members. Also, the family would like to mention a great friend, Kara Vaughn, she put many smiles on his face and brought laughter to his house. As a nurse she helped him in so many ways. We will forever be grateful.
