She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Conner; her second husband, Warren Archer; a very special friend, Bob Tarter; and one brother, Robert "Bobby" Reed. Nadine was a longtime resident of the Mt. Pleasant community in Roanoke County where she enjoyed walking with her friends and participating in activities at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Nelson) Wakefield; son, David (Vickie) Conner; daughter, Janet (Greg) Ratliff; and one brother, Charles "Butch" (Caroline) Reed. Nadine also is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she adored and loved spending many happy times with. The family would like to thank the Salem Terrace Dogwood Memory Care nurses and staff as well as Good Samaritan Hospice for all the loving care they provided our Mom. Nadine's family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 627 Hardy Road, Vinton, where a service celebrating her life and memories will be held at 2 p.m. following the visitation. The Rev. Eric Spano will officiate. Interment will follow at Rest Vale Cemetery in Copperhill, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. on January 9, 2018.3

He is survived by his wife, Susie Craft, New Castle, Va; daughters and sons-in-law, Marcy and Robert Elsner, New Albany, In., Rogenia and Steve Quesenberry, New Castle, Va.: two grandsons, Micheal and Jeffery Quesenberry; special father-in-law, Roy Brookman, Salem, Va; sister, Linda Camden, Roanoke, Va; brother and sister-in-law, Don Craft and wife, Rita, Roanoke, Va; sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Howard Matheny, Mobile, Ala; brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Cindy Brookman, Catawba, Va; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 10, 2008, at Paitsel Funeral Home, New Castle, with the Rev. Raymond Christian and Pastor Don Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Huffman Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2008. Evelyn Earnestine Reed was born on November 10, 1924 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,2 She married John Stockton Holmes on September 10, 1944 at Middletown, Frederick Co., Maryland.5,2,6 As of September 10, 1944,her married name was Holmes. Evelyn Earnestine Reed died on October 24, 2015 at Maryland at age 90.2 She Evelyn Ernestine (Tina) Reed Holmes, 90, from Middletown, returned peacefully to her Heavenly Father on October 24, 2015, following a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was the wife of John S. Holmes for 71 years. Their loving relationship was an inspiration to those around them. Born November 11, 1924, in Roanoke, she was the daughter of Aube Reed and Clara Reed. She married John and together they raised three children. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She especially enjoyed babies. She helped her husband in their business, Ye Old Spirit Shop. She was a member of Eastern Star, Zion Lutheran Church, and loved to travel with her husband. After they retired, they moved to the Eastern Shore where they enjoyed friends and the beautiful sunsets. As her disease progressed, they moved to Country Meadows and then in with family. She had many caregivers and each were special. A special thanks to Pam Cooper for her amazing care. Hospice of Washington County provided care and were a wonderful support. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Sherrie Holmes Rudy and husband Bob of New Hampshire, John Holmes and wife Evelyn of Keedysville, and Lynn Holmes Smith and husband Keith of Berlin, MD. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her two older brothers, Renice Reed and wife Margaret, and Cletus Reed and wife Evelyn. on October 28, 2015.2
