Betty Sue Phillips Betty Sue Phillips Martin, affectionately known as Sue to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024, at her home in Pearisburg, Virginia. Born on February 2, 1965, in Pulaski, Virginia, Sue was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Sue is survived by her devoted mother, Juanita Phillips, and her loving husband, Albert Charles Martin. She was a nurturing and caring mother to her sons, Albert Charles Martin II (Christina Ratcliffe) and David Dewayne Martin (Kyla Webb), and a cherished step-mother to Heather Dawn Edwards. Sue's role as a grandmother to Lilly Jean Spencer and Alora Marie Martin was one of her greatest joys. She shared a special bond with her siblings, brother Mike Phillips and Wayne Phillips, sister Linda Conley, and step-sisters Lori Reeves and Dreama Martin. Her life was further enriched by the presence of several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death was her father, Garnet Lee Phillips, who instilled in her the values of kindness and perseverance, and her sister, Brenda James, with whom she shared countless cherished memories. She was also preceded by her father and mother-in-law, Haven and Sally Martin. Sue's passion for life was evident in her many interests. She was an excellent cook, known for her delicious meals and the warmth she brought to every family gathering. Her love for the outdoors was reflected in her enthusiasm for camping, where she spent many happy days surrounded by nature and loved ones. Sue was also a keen crossword puzzle enthusiast, a hobby that she approached with the same patience and determination that she applied to all aspects of her life. Lively, 93, of 205 Low Gap Rd. in Princeton died Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Princeton Community Hospital. Born in Lowell, WV December 11, 1919 he was the son of the late Fleet W. and Ida Mann Lively. Cecil was a real estate agent and broker for over 50 years. He worked for Tynes Realty for 15 years before starting Lively Realty Co. in Princeton, a successful real estate company he owned and operated with his wife and son for 35 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Princeton where he sang in the church choir for many years. Cecil was a graduate and Salutatorian of Peterstown High School. He was an avid musician and played in several bands through the years. He enjoyed playing music with his friends until his late 80's. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Ronald C. "Sleep" Lively; one sister, Violet Booth and three brothers, Phillip Arnold Lively, Waymen "Pete" Lively and Edwin "Teb" Lively. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Ruth Light Lively of Princeton; three granddaughters, Jennifer Lynn Lively of Wytheville, VA, Sarah Elizabeth Turner and her husband Nathan, and Dr. Tara Leigh Mitchell and her husband Ryan all of Princeton; three great-grandchildren, Leigh Ann Lively, Jack Turner and Reid Mitchell; four sisters, Macyl L. Walker and her husband Charles of Roanoke, VA, Velva McCarty of Norfolk, VA, Jean Brewster and her husband Don of Gloucester, VA and Margaret Lane and her husband David of Rich Creek, VA; brother-in-law, Paul "Buddy" Light and his wife Julia of Marie, WV; and sister-in-law, Mildred Wegman and her husband Clarence of Cary, NC.
