Joyce Ann (Shilling) Hudson of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 6, 2023. Joyce was preceded in death by Kennis Shilling (father); Gertrude (Wimmer) Shilling (mother); and Kent Crouch (son). Joyce is survived by Michael Crouch (grandson); Janet Lancaster (sister); Bobby Lancaster (brother-in-law); Don Shilling (brother); and Marcy Shilling (sister-in-law). Joyce made a career as an Executive Assistant for the Head of Investments at Shenandoah Life Insurance until she decided to retire. Joyce was wonderful at her job, but that least describes her as a person. Joyce lived life as a very selfless person in many ways. Joyce enjoyed making herself and her home available to family for gatherings, holidays, and any other reasons that presented themselves; and for Joyce all such situations called for her to provide a bountiful plate of food… or two. She was very appreciative of the fact that she had built a life for herself that allowed her to give to those that she loved because she had more than enough love to share. Joyce always reveled in the time that she spent with family; to her, time spent in such a way made even the simplest of activities memorable. From card games with her sister, phone calls with her brother, or running errands with her grandson, not a second spent with family was ever wasted. To Joyce, family wasn't just a collection of people with blood or legal relations. Family was a driving force in the life that she lived and made a very large impact in the decisions that she made whether big or small. Joyce's other great joy in life was her relationship with Jesus Christ. Joyce often studied the Bible when relaxing at home and enjoyed engaging in discussion of Biblical concepts and ideas about the meaning behind pieces of Scripture. Joyce would talk about Christ to anyone that was willing listen and believed that everyone should find their way to Christ through-out their lives. Through this belief, Joyce knew that when her journey here was completed that she would take her place in her forever home. With this knowledge Joyce was never worried of an eventual end and encouraged people to feel the same; about her and themselves. on July 14, 2023.4
