L., both of Princeton, and Dr. Billy Booth of Allentown, Pa; three daughters, Mrs. Capitola Burford of Salem, Ohio, Mrs. Eva Gail Shoupe of Midway and Miss Lettie Booth of Charleston; one sister, Mrs. Ozella Chaffin of Radford, Va., and one brother, Oliver Poff of Riner, Va. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Burns-Wornal Chapel of memorial Funeral Directory with Rev. Paul Hall in charge. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. today. on April 7, 1976.2

     Geneva Ferris Strain was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.1 She was born on December 16, 1908 at Augusta Co., Virginia.1 As of June 30, 1931,her married name was Poff.2 She married Alfred Lomis Poff, son of William Isaac Poff and Stella Florence Reed, on June 30, 1931 at Roanoke, Virginia.3,1,2 Geneva Ferris Strain died on May 26, 1996 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 87.1,4 She POFF, Geneva F., 87, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, May 26, 1996. Born December 16, 1908 in Augusta County, she was a daughter of the late William Preston Strain and Lena Catherine Reese Strain. Mrs. Poff was a graduate of Jefferson High School, Cornett Business School and LaSalle Extension University. She received certificates in various classes including Comtomoter, Typing Speed, Junior Accounting, and Income Tax Preparation. During the depression, she worked as a floor lady at Puritan Mills in Roanoke a position that she held until 1946. From 1950 to 1954 Mrs. Poff was employed be Reliable Bookkeeping and Tax Service. From February of 1954 to February 1973, she worked as a Statistical and Fiscal Supervisor for the Department of Social Services of City of the Roanoke. Mrs. Poff was a long time member of Melrose Baptist Church having been baptized August 8, 1926 by Dr. H. W. Connelly. Through the years she served her church in many capacities. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poff was preceded in death by her stepmother, Esther Webb Strain; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer Preston Strain and Mary Rodgers Strain; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia Strain Plunkett and Kenneth Reese Plunkett; a half brother, William Forrest Strain; and a half sister, Esther Ermadell Strain Friend. Surviving are her husband, Alfred L. Poff; a very special foster daughter and her husband, Elaine J. and David Meador, Roanoke; granddaughter, Laura Saunders and husband, Glenn, Roanoke; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Miles and Andrew Saunders; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dora P. and Bob Jennings, Roanoke; sister-in-law, Agnes P. Roberson, Roanoke; aunt, Virginia Reese McCoy, Stuarts Draft; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins including many on her husband's side of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Roanoke County Rescue Squad #5, PO Box 7464, Roanoke, Va. 24019. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 1996 at Melrose Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry E. Sprouse and the Rev. R. Bruce Griffith. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's North Chapel. on May 28, 1996.1

She was a charter member of the Bent Mountain Woman's Club. Surviving are: one niece, Margaret S. Bradford, four nephews, John D. Harman, James S. Lough, Harry A. Lough, and John Slater; special friends, James and Mary Murrie, Ivadell Janney, Lois R. Overstreet and Homer and Aldene Reed. Services were at Oakey's South Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2002. The Reverend William Jester officiated. Interment followed in Evergreen Burial Park. Special thanks to the staff of Richfield Nursing Center for ten years of love and devoted care. Memorials may be made to Lawrence Memorial United Methodist Church or the Bent Mountain Rescue Squad. on March 23, 2002.1

Walters was buried at Wilson Cemetery, Daniel's Run Road (Rt. 661), Locust Grove, Floyd Co., Virginia.3,4,5 She Mrs. Jacob Board, who has been in declining health for many years died December 22, 1927 at the home of her son, Lee Board, near Rifton. Mrs. Board was about 80 years of age and had been a great sufferer of rheumatism for many years and was not able to walk erect. She was a kind, good woman and was held in high esteem by all. Her husband preceeded her about 5 years ago, also one daughter, Mrs. Demona Smith preceeded her about 4 years ago. She leaves three sons surviving, namely: David Board, of Roanoke; Lee and Riley Board of Floyd County.
Her remains were interred in Wilson cemetery, after a short burial ceremony by Elder H. V. Cole.4 She was born on February 26, 1850 at Virginia.5 She married Jacob Board, son of Eli Solomon Board and Abigail "Abbie" Walters, on August 15, 1868 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1 As of August 15, 1868,her married name was Board. Elmira E. Walters died on December 22, 1927 at Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 77; The Marion Thomas Hall funeral records have a death date of Dec 21, 1927.4,6

Beginning on Pine Spur road and the corner of my fence next to Meadow Run from thence a strait line to the upper corner of my fence next toward his house leaving said corner strait course to William Conner Seniors line and with said line to James Coppers line thence down said line to the road leading from Andrew Conners unto the Pine Spur road from thence to the beginning which said land or boundary of land is supposed to contain seventy-five acres more or less. To have and to hold the same with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise thereunto appertaining to the said William Conner and his heirs representatives and assign forever and the said Jonathan Conner and Sarah his wife for themselves and their heirs the said boundary of land with the appurtenances unto the said William Conner and his heirs representatives and assigns will against the claim of themselves and their heirs and against the claim of all and every person or persons whatsoever by these presents warrant and forever defend in Witness whereof the said Jonathan Conner and Sarah his wife both hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year above written. Pine Spur Road does not exist any more. Probably anyone could walk along it, but it was near Cross Roads Church and went into Franklin County going to Callaway. on March 22, 1824. He Deed between nephew William Conner Jr. and wife Elizabeth and William Conner Sr.
This indenture made the 17th day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty-six. William Conner Junr and Elizabeth Conner his wife of the one part and William Conner Sr. of the other part all of the county of Montgomery and State of Virginia. Witnesseth that the said William Conner Jr. and his wife Elizabeth both this day for and in consideration of the sum of thirty dollars to them in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged both bargained and sold and doth by these presents bargain sell and deliver to William Conner Senior his heirs and assigns forever all that boundary of land that lies between a spring branch that rises in an old field of said William Conner Sr. and the line of said William Conner Junr and bounded as followeth. Beginning at the said branch opposite to a corner or a white oak in the line of said William Conner Junr and along his fence and with his line and fence to his corner a black oak sapling said corner a South east course to the above named branch thence up said branch to the beginning. To have and to hold the said boundary of land with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anvwise thereunto belonging to the only use and behoof of him the said William Conner Senr his heirs and assigns forever and the said William Conner Junr and Elizabeth his wife for themselves and their heirs doth covenant and agree with the said William Conner Sear and his heirs to warrant and defend the right and title of the premises aforesaid against the claims and demands of themselves their heirs and assigns as well as against the claims and demands of all and assigns as well as against claims and demands of all and every person or persons whatever. Given under our hands and seals the day and year first above written. (Signed) William Conner (Signed) Elizabeth Conner on October 17, 1826.5 He left a will on December 13, 1865 at Floyd Co., Virginia; In the name of God Amen: I William R. Conner of the County of Floyd and State of Virginia being of sound mind and body to make this to be my last will and testament that is to say I desire in the first place that all my just debts is to be paid as soon after my desease as may be convenient out of my estate.
In the second place I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Conner all my real and personal estate of which she is to have and to make use of during her life.
It is also my will that my son Jacob R. Conner to have a certain boundary of land is all the land that I have on the south side of a road known as the old saw log road which I value at six dollars per acre. It is also my will that my son Peter Conner to have a certain boundary of land that is a boundary that has been survayed and plated which land I also value at six dollars per acre.
It is allso my will that my son Albert Conner to have a certain boundary of land. Beginning at the crop roads and running with the road Eastward to my outside line Which adjoins Fleming Poff and with my line to the road at the meeting house and with the road to a branch thus leaving the road running up a lane to the top of a hill near an old barn to a crop fence and with the fence at the Pine Spur road and with road to the beginning which land I also value at six dollars per acre.
It is also my will that my son Samuel S. Conner to have a certain boundary of land I have between the boundarys I gave to my two sons Peter and Albert Conner which land I also value at six dollars per acre. I also give to my said son Samuel one other peace of land beginning at the top of the hill at the crop fence near an old barn and running with the land with road to my outside which joins John O. Conner. All the land I have on the south side of the above named road to the above named crop fence which I also value at six dollars per acre.
It is also my will that my daughter Mary Poff, wife of Peter Poff, to have a certain boundary of land beginning at the old barn at the top of the hill and running with the road to the meeting house line and with my line _____ above the meeting house to a new fence and down the same to a Branch and down said Branch to my outside line and with it to the road leading to the above named Barn which land I also value at six dollars per acre.
It is also my will that my grandson Zachariah Carr to have one hundred dollars out of my estate provided he lives to be twenty one years of age.
It is also my will that all the above parcels of land to be surveyed and plats made out so as to ascertain the number of acres to each of the above named sons and daughters so they may calculate the amount of my real estate.
It is also my will that the foregoing named sons and daughters pay in money to my son Jonathan Conner and my daughter, Julina Carr, wife of John Carr, _____to make them equal with the foregoing named sons and daughters. The amount of estate to be equally divided between all.
It is also my desire that my three sons Peter, Albert, and Samuel S. Conner to be my executors and guardian for my grandson Zachariah Carr.
It is also my will that my several sons and daughters to have five years to pay my son Jonathan and daughter Julina their part of the estate to be paid yearly equal installments and I do hereby declear these presents to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I the said William R. Conner Haver to this my last will and testament affixed my hand and seal this thirtieth day of December, 1865.

Born September 26, 1928, at Cambria, Virginia, he was the son of the late George Gilmer and Evie Gilmer Linkous. Jack was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy, he received the World War II Victory Medal and served on the USS Warrington. For most of Jack's life, he worked in sales, having retired from Bluefield Supply Company. Prior to moving to Princeton, he lived in Pulaski, Virginia where he was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where he served as an Elder and taught Sunday School. After his retirement, Jack kept busy, having volunteered for Princeton Community Hospital, working in the garden and being a true jack of all trades. He loved West Virginia and always had a smile on his face. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Patrick Conner; a baby son, Bernard Jack Gilmer Jr. and a baby daughter, Brenda Faye Gilmer. Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, whom he loved dearly, Martha Gilmer; daughter, Coretha Loughridge and husband Johnny of Tyler, Texas; stepdaughter, Sheryl Conner of Bedford, Texas; grandchildren, Lindsey Conner and Paul Morra; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Velma Kinzie of Roanoke, Va., Shirley Ann Linkous of Blacksburg, Va., Joyce Feazell of Roanoke, Va., C.B. Linkous of Riner, Va; special friend, Sara Lancaster of Blacksburg, Va. A graveside service will be held 4:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with his son-in-law, Pastor Johnny Loughridge officiating. A time of sharing will be held Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Linkous, Timothy Linkous, Brandon Linkous, Robert Dowdy, Gary Dowdy, Mike Dowdy, and B.J. Dotson. The Gilmer family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton. on October 24, 2012.6
