In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Grace and Sue Lahti; and a nephew, John Grace. He received BS and MS degrees at VPI&SU and an Ed D from NC State. For over 30 years, he worked for VPI&SU. As an extension agent in Floyd County, he supported agricultural research and practices, Extension Homemakers programs, and 4-H Clubs. In addition, he offered expertise to the residents of Floyd in developing the Great Oaks Country Club while it was under construction and also assisted in the turf management of that golf course. As a member of the Ruritan Club and the Jaycees, he organized many civic activities. John fundraised for the West Central Virginia 4-H Educational Center in Wirtz, Va., and helped in its construction and implementation of that facility. As District Director for Northern Virginia, his accomplishments included coordinating the development of the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center and the establishment of the Outstanding Virginia Day. In addition, he served as an administrator [to] the Loyal Order of the Moose in both Luray and Roanoke. Dr. Huddleston was formerly a member of Mt. Carmel Regular Baptist Church in Luray and current member of Calvary Baptist Church in Shallotte, N.C., where he served as Deacon. on July 11, 2013.2

Graveside services will be at Rest Vale Cemetery, Copper Hill, 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013. The Rev. Greg Fleshman will officiate. Memorials may be sent to a charity of choice. It was her wish to return home for burial. Family and friends respectfully invited. on July 7, 2013.1

A graveside service will be held in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Monday, November 24, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Tom Stocks officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Church, 5801 Pineville-Matthews Road, Charlotte, N.C., 28226, or Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, N.C. 28204. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. on November 23, 1997.2
