Martin dead. Popular town sergeant succumbs after ten day battle for life, June 27th, at 3:30 a.m. Oscar M. Martin, town sergeant of New Castle, died at Jefferson Hospital, Roanoke at half past three o'clock Thursday morning, June 27th after lingering since Sunday night, June 16th. Contrary to the opinion of physicians his numerous friends still hoped that through some way his life would be spared basing their hope on his perfect health and magnificent physique. During the weary hours the faithful watch of a father, brother and sister never faltered and the best of medical attention and nursing was his. He never regained his speech fron the shock and only at times showed a trace of consciousness. The remains arrived here from Roanoke on Thursday evening and funeral services will be held at the Christian Church at 2 o'clock this (Friday) afternoon by the Rev. P. M. Snodgrass, of Paint Bank, assisted by Rev. A. M. Fox. Interment will be made in West View Cemetery. Harvey D. Looney his assailant is still at the Clifton Forge Hospital shot through the abdomen supposed to be self-inflicted or accidental. He is recovering slowly and will probably be brought here and placed in jail in a week or ten days. on June 29, 1912.5

Hazel Wagener Craft died on August 3, 2008 at Virginia at age 92.6,7 She Hazel Craft Hatfield, 92, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2008. She was an employee of Paitsel Funeral Home for 32 years and was a life member of New Castle Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hatfield, and sister Ruth Reynolds. She is survived by her daughter, Carol and husband, Bill Zaionczkowski; grandchildren, Kim Blankenship, Jeff Blankenship and Bobby Blankenship; and special friend, Robin Wright. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at the New Castle Christian Church with Dr. Ernie Johnston officiating. Interment will follow at West View Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2008. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Craig County Recreation and Conservation Association, P.O. Ruth Marie Craft died on May 18, 2007 at Chesapeake, Virginia, at age 86.6,3 She NORFOLK - Ruth Craft Reynolds, 86, formerly of the 8000 block of Meadow Creek Road, passed away May 18, 2007, in Chesapeake General Hospital. Born in New Castle, Va., she was the daughter of the late Glenwood and Nealie Craft. She was predeceased by her husband, William H. Reynolds Jr. and her daughter-in-law, Karen W. Reynolds. She was a member of Azalea Gardens Baptist Church, Norfolk. Survivors include her son, William H. Reynolds III of Chesapeake; a grandson, William H. "Will" Reynolds IV; a sister, Hazel Hatfield of New Castle, Va; a cousin, Carol Zaionczkowski of Richmond; as well as one niece and two nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. The Rev. Charles L. Moseley will officiate. The viewing will begin Sunday with the family receiving friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. on May 19, 2007.3
