Eliza Pride Deaton died on June 25, 1891 at Macon Co., Illinois, at age 71.2,3 She Last night Mrs. Eliza Gray, aged 71 years and 9 months, died at her home four miles northwest of Decatur, the result of a complication of diseases. The deceased was a native of Virginia. A portion of her life was spent in Eastern Tennessee, the remainder in Illinois. Her husband died 20 years ago, leaving her with a family of ten children. A son and daughter died, and there are eight children who mourn her loss, three daughters and three sons living at the home place. The funeral will be held at the family residence to-morrrow at 9 a.m., services conducted by Rev. O. E. Torrey. Burial in Greenwood. on June 26, 1891.3

Grandpa especially loved his grandchildren, Robert, Josh, Shaun, Lena, Bill, and Gary; and his many nieces and nephews. Bob proudly served his country during WW II as an artilleryman on an anti-aircraft gun crew protecting London from German bombers and V-1 rockets. He then crossed the channel into France, and advanced into Belgium and Germany with his gun crew until the end of the war. "Mr. Bob" was a life member of the Eggleston Volunteer Fire Department, serving since it was formed in 1963. He treasured his time in the Fire Department and all the fine people who served with him. Bob retired from the "old string plant" (Celco) in 1985 with 43 years of service. Bob really enjoyed his retirement and spent a lot of time gardening and growing beautiful flowers. He inherited his love for growing things from his Pappy, and awesome gardener in his own time. Bob's most treasured possession was his loving family. Interment following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. on August 12, 2000.1
