Rebecca Sumner was buried at Saar Cemetery on a knoll, off South 212th Street, Kent's east hill, later reinterred in Hillcrest Burial Park, 1005 Reiten Road, Kent, King Co., Washington.3,5 She was born on December 28, 1837 at Floyd Co., Virginia.7,1,3,5 She married James David Iddings, son of Cyrus R. Iddings and Elizabeth "Liz" Conner, on February 1, 1866 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,2,3,4,6 As of February 1, 1866,her married name was Iddings. Rebecca Sumner died on December 18, 1913 at King Co., Washington, at age 75.3,5,6 She SUNNYHILL, Dec. 22. - Last Thursday morning, December 18th, at 2 o'clock the earthly life of Rebecca Sumner Iddings ended in peaceful sleep at the residence of her son Taylor. She had been confined to her bed only a few days prior to her death, although she had been ailing for a long time. Mrs. Iddings, familiarly known as 'Grandma,' was a woman who had made many friends during her lifetime. She was a kind, good neighbor and leaves a large circle of friends to mourn her passing. Rebecca Sumner was born in Floyd county, Virginia, in 1837, and would have been 76 years old had she lived until the following Tuesday. She was married to J. D. Iddings, also of Virginia, in 1866. In the year 1882 Mr. and Mrs. Iddings moved with their family to Kansas and after a five years' residence there they decided to come out to the Northwest, locating in Eastern Washington, where they remained but a short time, coming to Sunnyhill in 1890, at which time there were only a very few settlers here. Since the death of her husband in 1903 Mrs. Iddings had made her home with her son Taylor. In early days in Virginia she was a close friend of the late Admiral Bob Evans and was much disappointed when sickness prevented his bringing the fleet into Seattle that she might see him and renew their acquaintance. The deceased was the mother of six children, Charles, Mrs. P. H. Harrisburg of Georgetown, Taylor, J. E., Thos. F. and Mrs. C. Lankester of Astoria, all of whom attended the funeral. The services were held at the house on Saturday afternoon, the Rev. Wm. A. McCall of the Baptist church of Kent officiating, and was attended by a large concourse of friends and neighbors. The casket was covered with beautiful floral offerings brought by loving friends and relatives. The remains were laid to rest beside her husband in the cemetery at O'Brien.
