In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Edwin (Buddy) Branscome; and one sister, Doris Griffith. Survivors include her husband of 42 years, James C. Hughes; one daughter, Jami Horton and her husband Harold of Alvin, Texas; two sons, James Hughes, Jr. and his wife Erin of Advance, N.C. and Jason Hughes and his wife Carrie of Princeton; four brothers, Bill Branscome and his wife Maxine of Richmond, Va., Charles (Buck) Branscome and his wife Edith of Princeton, Ross Branscome of Kernersville, N.C. and Joe Branscome of Princeton; one sister, Jane Arrington of Princeton; nine grandchildren, John Horton, Hannah Horton, James Horton, Brett Hughes, Alli Hughes, Josie Hughes, Mitchell Hughes, MacKenzi Hughes and Micah Hughes. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2009 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Revs. Ken Clay and Eddie Pettrey officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. A private ceremony will be held at a later date. Dillard was born June 21, 1926 in Barn, W.Va., a son of the late Charlie Winton and Florence McBride Mills. In addition to his parents, one sister, Nellie Mills and two brothers, Willard Mills and Delmer Mills, and his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Maupin Mills, preceded him in death. He was a WWII veteran and served as an MP in the Asiatic/Pacific Theater. Obtaining a B.A. from Concord University and a M.A. from Marshall University in 1962, he served over 60 years in local, State and Federal service, finishing as a Health Facility Surveyor with the WV State Department of Health. Survivors include 4 sons and two daughters-in-law, Stanley Mills of Huntington, Garlin and Pam Mills of Palmyra, Va., Jeff and Erin Mills of Huntington and Craig Mills of Newtown Square, Pa. Dillard was a Master Mason, a lifelong member of Concord Lodge No 48, in Athens, W.Va., and the National Rehabilitation Association. He was a member of the Norwood Free Methodist Church. He was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years and will be greatly missed. He was a 1928 graduate of Athens High School, a 1934 education graduate of Concord College, and received his master's degree at West Virginia University in 1942. He worked as an educator and principal until his retirement in 1967. He also worked at Parker Brothers Store during this time and continued there until 1997. He was a life member and Past Worshipful Master of Concord Masonic Lodge #48 where he received a 50 year life member award in 1980 and 70 year recognition in 2000. He was also Past Priest of Athens Chapter #26, Royal Arch Masons. In 1999 the Town of Athens recognized him with the Elder Citizen Award. In addition to his wife and parents, four brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Survivors include three daughters, Fritzi Fentress and husband, Jack of Virginia Beach, Va., Elizabeth Mills and husband, Dillard of Huntington, and Jack Burroughs and husband, Joe of Virginia Beach; two sons, Joe Parker of Athens and Jerry Parker of Charleston; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Clara Alvis of Athens; one brother, Fred Parker of Athens; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Kevin Gooding officiating. Burial will follow at the Athens Cemetery with Concord Masonic Lodge #78 conducting graveside rites. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today. Born August 11, 1939 in Bluefield, he was the son of the late H. M. Hale & Pansy Smith Hale. Charlie was a graduate of Princeton High School and a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the U.S. Army. He was a certified Welder most of his life and the owner/operator of Charlie Hale Welding Company for many years. Charlie also taught welding at the Mercer Vocational Technical Center for 37 years. For many years, Charlie was an active member of the Bluefield Rescue Squad and was given a lifetime membership with the Squad. He was a member of the AF & AM Lodge #85 of Bluefield. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Elaine Belcher Hale, two sons: Jeffery Scott Hale & fiancée Nancy Hickman, Mark Alan Hale. Two grandchildren, Sarah Catherine Hale & Christopher Michael Hale. Two siblings, H. Jackson Hale & Betty Jo Parker. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 20, 2016 from the Greenview United Methodist Church in Green Valley with Pastor Rick Chester officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Masonic AF & AM Lodge #85 of Bluefield will provide graveside rites. on August 18, 2016.4

Betty Jo was born on July 30, 1934 at Itmann, West Virginia as the first daughter of Hubbert M. and Pansy Smith Hale. She grew up in Princeton, West Virginia. She graduated from Princeton High School and attended Bluefield Business College. She worked as a teller, bookkeeper and Secretary to the President of the Princeton Bank and Trust Company. She was married on August 18, 1962 to Mclvor L. Parker, Jr. of Arlington, Virginia. They moved to Falls Church, Virginia and subsequently they moved to Springfield, Virginia and lived there for 30 years. During those years, they enjoyed Square Dancing and numerous vacations to various parts of the United States. Betty Jo was very talented at various crafts and pursued many craft projects. Over the years, they visited Colonial Williamsburg many times and upon retirement, they moved here. Betty Jo was deeply involved with the Woman's Club of Williamsburg GFWC while continuing to pursue many craft projects. Betty Jo was predeceased by her father, mother, sister Lois Ann and brother Charles. She is survived by her husband, Mclvor, and brother Jack Hale of Alexandria, Virginia. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 25th from 3-5pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, Virginia 23188. A private burial will be held on July 23, 2018.4
