Swanson Woodson Angle Swanson Woodson Angle, March 8, 1941 – January 2, 2023. Swanson Woodson Angle (Rocky) passed away on January 2, 2023 in Frisco, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family. Rocky was held in the highest regard by all who knew him and treasured as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and coworker. Rocky’s gentle kindness and intelligence provided strength to many over the years. Born in Roanoke, Virginia to Clarence and Cornelia Angle, Rocky and his younger brother Gene both grew up fans of football and music. Rocky attended Virginia Tech (BS, 1963) and later University of Virginia (JD, 1966) and entered active duty in the United States Air Force at Vandenberg AFB, California. His education resumed with a Masters of Laws degree in Government Contracts from George Washington Law School (1973). His career spanned the globe, and included noteworthy responsibilities such as serving as a NATO Trial Observer in Turkish criminal courts, Judge Advocate in which he advised the commander and staff of the largest tactical wing in Europe. He became a senior legal member of the Strategic Air Command at Offutt AFB, Nebraska. His military decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force commendation Medal and National Defense Service Medal among others. Retiring from the Air Force as a Colonel in 1990, Rocky worked as private legal counsel specializing in contracts in St. Louis Missouri and in Dallas, Texas where he ultimately retired as general counsel at Dallas Area Rapid Transit. Rocky found the love of his life while stationed at Vandenberg, where he met Karen Bowman from Emmett, Idaho. Rocky and Karen enjoyed 55 years of marriage. He is survived by Karen, his son Brian and daughter Jill, daughter-in law Megan and grandchildren Caroline, Elizabeth and Maggie. Rocky’s legacy lives on in the love instilled in his family, the lessons that created a strong moral compass, work ethic and enduring devotion to loved ones. Rocky is with us, singing along with the Eagles. His good nature, and appreciation of slapstick humor will be forever remembered and sorely missed. Home for Rocky and his family was not just a physical place but in the heart. He received many kindnesses in his final years from family, neighbors, caregivers, the Visiting Angels of McKinney, his long-time physicians who became friends, and especially the Visiting Nurses Association.5 He was born on March 8, 1941 at Roanoke, Virginia.4,5 He married Karen Idella Bowman on December 16, 1967 at Carmel, Monterey Co., California.3,7,5 Swanson Woodson Angle died on January 2, 2023 at Frisco, Collin Co., Texas, at age 81.5
