Beulah Irene Austin died on September 22, 2017 at Virginia at age 90.⁴ She Beulah Austin Whitlock Vest passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Friday, September 22, 2017. She was a devout Christian and an active member of the Stonewall Methodist/Brethren Church for 40 years. She is preceded in death by her loving parents George and Margie Austin; her late husband William Whitlock; two brothers, Hanford Austin and Arnold (Maddie) Austin. She is survived by her loving husband and angel of mercy of 24 years Shelven (Sonny) Vest. It's with the greatest of admiration the family wants to recognize the love, care and dedication that Sonny provided our Mother. In addition she is survived by two sons; Rev Daniel W. (Sabrina) Whitlock and David (Kathy) Whitlock; daughter, Debra (Charlie) Statzer; two stepsons, Darryl (Robin) Vest and John (Mary) Vest; step-daughter, Annette (Mike) Battle; three grandsons, Waylon Whitlock, Ethan (Jennifer) Whitlock and Will (SaZha) Statzer; three step-grandsons, Eric (Amanda) Janney, Travis Boyd and Kenny Moore; three step-granddaughters, Kimberly (Andrew) Nichols, Amanda (Joey) Belcher and Alexis Vest; two brothers, Dr. Fred Austin and William Versal Austin; numerous loving nephews, nieces and great- grandchildren. Interment in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank all the caregivers and the Carilion Clinic Hospice staff for all their kind deeds and comforting care throughout Beulah's illness. on September 23, 2017.⁴

Freddie Lewis "Fred" Austin died on March 7, 2023 at Virginia at age 89.¹² He Fred L. Austin, age 89, entered into eternal life on March 7, 2023. Fred was born on October 22, 1933, in Floyd County, Va. He was a graduate of Check High School, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Asbury Theological Seminary, and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity by Emory and Henry College. Fred was an ordained United Methodist minister and served in Holston Conference United Methodist churches in Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee for 38 1/2 years. He retired from serving as District Superintendent of the Wytheville District in June, 1996. After retirement he filled in for United Methodist, Presbyterian, Christian, Lutheran, Episcopal, and Baptist churches when needed. He was proud to serve as pastor of Castle Rock Baptist Church in Pembroke for four years. Fred was married to Vivian Light on March 7, 1953. To their marriage of 70 years God added two sons, Roy Stephen and wife, Gail, and Timothy Lewis and wife, Pamela. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Heather Teta (Brian) of Rockville Centre, N.Y., Brad Austin (Lauren) of Charlotte, N.C., Kate Stauffer (Kyle) of Grottoes, and Adam Austin of Harrisonburg, as well as nine great-grandchildren. Interment will be held at Birchlawn Burial Park. on March 11, 2023.¹²

Friends may call anytime after 1:30 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home Sunday, October 1, 2000, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 2, 2000, at Horne Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tom Martin, Dr. Fred Austin, and Rev. Kimball Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Iddings Cemetery in the Terry's Fork section of Floyd County. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Box 176, Christiansburg, Va. 24068 or New River Valley Hospice, 111 West Main St., Christiansburg, Va. 24073. Cole and Mrs. Otho Martin. Funeral services were held at Mountain View Church by several Elders, admist a large congregation of sorowing relative and friends. Interment was in Wilson Cemetery by his dear companion... Edwin Clark Conner Edwin Clark Conner, Apr 12, 1943 - Dec 27, 2024. Edwin Clark Conner, 81 of Copper Hill went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 27, 2024. Edwin was a truck driver for many years of his life, driving over the road in his earlier years and then having local routes with the local egg farm, Seaboard and then later Corrugated Container. He enjoyed motorcycle riding in his younger years, while in his later years he enjoyed watching the wildlife in the backyard, riding around on his Kawasaki to the pond and taking his grandkids fishing as well as tinkering in his garage. He also had a love of flying having gotten his private pilot’s license in 2010. He is now reunited with those who've gone before him including his wife of 59 years, Norma Jean Conner, his mom and dad, Eva and Maurice Conner; sisters, Peggy Bain and Helen Hubbard; and brother, Harvey Conner. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Bobby Huff of Floyd, Teresa and Andy Martin of Check; four grandchildren, Courtney Cox and her husband, Zach, Robert Huff and his wife, Bridget, Conner Martin and Kimberly Martin; great grandson, Gavin Cox; great granddaughter Layni Cox; two sisters, Marcia Turner, Penny Conner; and one brother Clinton Conner and his wife, Diann; along with several nieces and nephews and long-time best friend, Eugene Boley. Edwin was a person who loved woodworking and making things. He made his oldest daughter her first business cards for cake decorating on his dad’s old printing press. He built his youngest daughter a desk, he built coffee tables, many birdhouses, squirrel perches and more. He made a special wood piece for each grandchild: a rocking horse, a green dump truck, a red wagon, a babydoll bed, and a wooden cradle for his first great-grandchild. He adored his grandkids and great-grandkids and loved to make faces at them to get their reactions. He was a jokester and often had some quick wit to share with friends and family for a laugh. Some of his favorite phrases were “I reckon”, “That’ll work!”, “Okie Dokie” and “Good Golly”. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Lewis Gale Hospital, Salem for all the care they gave during his recent stay.⁴ He was buried at Jacksonville Burial Ground, Rt. 8, 0.25 miles south of Floyd, Floyd Co., Virginia.⁴ He was born on April 12, 1943 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.^1,5,3,4 He married Frances Norma Jean Martin, daughter of Elvin Moore Martin and Frances Alberta Profitt, on February 16, 1963 at Franklin Co., Virginia.^1,5,6,9,10 Edwin Clark Conner died on December 27, 2024 at Virginia at age 81.⁴

Helen Marie Conner Mrs. Helen Conner Hubbard, age 78 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born in Floyd County on February 25, 1945, to the late Maurice Conner and Eva Epperly Conner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Earl Hubbard; a granddaughter, Brandi Marie Hubbard; one sister, Peggy Bain; and one brother, Harvey Conner. Helen was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. She was a beautiful person who loved her family, sons, and grandkids. She also loved her church, and her dogs. She was always smiling, happy, and never failed to put others first. She loved family outings, going shopping, and eating out. She will be missed tremendously and will always hold a place in everyone’s hearts. Surviving is two sons and a daughter-in-law, Teddy and Cristy Hubbard, Rickey Hubbard all of Stuart; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Penny Conner of Copper Hill, Marcia and James Turner of Floyd; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Edwin Conner of Copper Hill, Clinton and Diann Conner of Pilot; and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lessie Bolt Conner; his daughter, Jessica Belcher; grandchildren, Shayla Belcher, Ariana Belcher, Hadassah Belcher, Samson Belcher, Boaz Belcher, Yissachar Belcher; his son, Christopher Conner and wife Dorothy Conner; grandchildren, Xander Conner, A.J. Conner, son, Eric Conner; siblings and spouses, Edwin Conner, Helen Hubbard, Marcia and James Turner, Penny Conner, Clinton and Diann Conner. Special Thanks to Hospice Nurse Becky for her wisdom, comfort and care.
