He was born in Floyd County, Va., the son of the late John W. and Mary Martin Johnson. She was the daughter of the late Eldridge and Nellie Wray Furrow. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Mason; brother and sister-in-law, Stafford and Bertha Furrow; brother-in-law, Duke Motley; sister-in-law, Phyllis Furrow; daughter-in-law, Rose Mary Mason; and son-in-law, Kenneth Altice. She was born on February 25, 1928, in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Eldridge Furrow and the late Nellie Wray Furrow. She was married to the late Duke S. Moltey. She was a member of Mill Creek Community Church. She is survived by one son, Byron (Janice) Motley; and several nieces and nephew. The family would like to thank her special caregiver, Leigh Creasy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Galen Motley; brothers, Stafford Furrow, Maymon Furrow, and Glenn Furrow; and a sister, Arnita F. Mason. Maymon was a devoted husband, father, and "Papa Maymon," who was a hard worker and took pride in his daily accomplishments. Maymon proudly served his country for four years in the United States Army, and throughout his life he always spoke fondly of the people he worked with at Continental Homes and the people he met through Furrow's Farm Machinery. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Eldridge and Nellie Wray Furrow; his mother-in-law, Alice Altice Hall; his wife, Phyllis Ann Hall Furrow; sister and brother-in-law, Arnita Furrow Mason and Bob; brother and sister-in-law, Stafford Furrow and Bertha; brother-in-law, Duke Motley. Surviving are his sister, Bevelene Furrow Motley; and brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Lorene Furrow. Also surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Wes and Becky Furrow; and daughter and son-in-law, Allison Leigh and Darren Robertson; as well as seven grandchildren who were the light of his life, Reece, Madison, Hanna, and Ryan Robertson, and Adam, Levi, and Ainsley Furrow. He is also survived by several very special nieces and nephews. Maymon will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. on May 3, 2016.3

Altice; sisters-in-law, Arnita Mason and Bevelene Motley; brother-in-law, Glenn Furrow and wife Lorene; many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Mary, Lisa, Celeste and Betsy for their wonderful care. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2013, with the Rev. Patrick Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Joyce was born in Franklin County, Virginia on December 3, 1928. She was a resident of Roanoke for 60 years and graduated from Calloway High School. She was a member of New Hope Methodist Church in Franklin County. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Melvin E. Matthews, Sr; her father Albert C. Furrow and bothers Albert E. and Roy H. Furrow. She is survived by her son Melvin E. Matthews, Jr. of Roanoke; sisters, Agnes Thacker of Hampton Va. and Helen Sue Johnson of Roanoke; brother Wayne Furrow and his wife Judy of Franklin County; sister-in-law, Excie and Betty Furrow of Rocky Mount; many nieces; nephews; cousins and friends. A Graveside service will be held in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Airport Road, Roanoke. on January 2, 2006.4

Agnes Bernice Furrow died on May 3, 2019 at Newport News, Virginia, at age 85.10 She Agnes Bernice Thacker, 85, widow of Eugene Thacker, Sr., went to her heavenly home on Friday, May 3, 2019, at The Chesapeake in Newport News, VA. A member of Ivy Memorial Baptist Church, Agnes lived in Hampton, VA from 1969 until 2017 when she moved to The Chesapeake. She was a Floyd County native and briefly lived in Roanoke, VA before marrying Eugene and moving to California where they lived until their return to Virginia upon his retirement from the U.S. Navy. Her husband of 46 years, Eugene Thacker, Sr. preceded her in rest.
